With every great invention comes a new form of dependance. We create materials to make our life easier, yet we begin to forget the concepts of divinity through them. Yes, the iPhone is an amazing tool to have, but it becomes crippling if you rely on it. If you expect it to fulfill your happiness.
The three ways The Smart Phone is ruining our existence is it’s making us lazier, we have lost connection with ourselves and each other and we’re suffering from depression because of these two factors.
We are losing our essence as a spirit because we have become reliant on our phone to do everything for us. We begin to believe all of the answers are on google and we forget about our intuitive compass. We forget that our bodies tell us everything we need to know. Our bodies are constantly collecting information. Our brains notice patterns, our nervous systems respond to our surroundings, and our gut can react to something before our conscious mind can explain why. That feeling of “something doesn’t feel right” or “I feel like I should go this way” isn’t necessarily random. It can be our brain and body communicating information that we haven’t consciously processed yet. Technology gives us access to an incredible amount of information, but information isn’t the same thing as wisdom. A phone can tell us where to go, what something means, what other people think, and even what we should buy—but it cannot always tell us what is right for us.
There is value in pausing before reaching for a screen and asking ourselves, “What do I already know? What am I feeling? What is my body telling me?”
We don’t have to reject technology. We simply have to remember that it is a tool, not our compass. The danger isn’t having the answers at our fingertips. The danger is becoming so dependent on them that we stop listening to ourselves. There’s so many unhealthy relationships and unhealthy family dynamics because we still have not built the skill of communication and the smart phones did not help with this problem. It’s easy to bully, it’s easy for children to see inappropriate content and comments, it’s easy for someone to lure children and people in general. It’s harder to teach people problem-solving skills, patience, and compassion because social media, amazon and celebrities have blindsided us from the whole entire point of life. Life is about being present, being open to learning and staying aware of the communication of Divinity (God). A lot of us can’t even hear God because of our phones (we have so many other people’s voices playing in our heads we can’t hear the voice that really matters.)
We have gotten lazier. We rather hop from one person to the next than stay in a healthy long-term relationship because we’re living off of the illusion that there is someone better than the person YOU chose. We don’t want to deal with the bumps in our road because someone else doesn’t have to. We scroll and we see lives that we want, and we assume we deserve what that person has. How egotistical can we get? You’re going to demand something from God… And you’re demanding something you didn’t even earn. The internet has put us in a delusion. A delusion I fight my way out of daily. I’m not writing this to judge anyone. I am writing this to bring conviction to you. Not only that, but an awakening as well.
The more convenient our world becomes, the more we begin outsourcing our patience, our attention, and even our happiness to the things we could buy. The smartphone didn’t just put the world in our hands—it taught us to expect the world to come to us. Phones turned convenience into expectation, and eventually stimulation into emotional dependence.
