A photographers life
I am often told, a plan is only as good as its back up plan. Once again this has proven true and I'll explain. I had booked the studio out for a pretty decent session, four hours if I recall correctly, heaps of time to set up, shoot and pack up. I was planning to do a fitness style shoot as I really wanted to have that in my portfolio. I messaged a model that I had worked with previously and knew would be perfect for this and would be great to work with (as always), created a moodboard, researched lighting setups and everything was going well, until it came to make up.

Understanding Manual Mode
When you first get your DSLR you’ll probably put it on Auto, point, shoot, done; you have an image. Yes, this dose give you a photo, but you have almost no control over how the camera takes it. Putting your camera in Auto means that you’re giving all controls over for the camera to assess what the camera sees and trust it put the right combination of settings together to expose your image well. Sure, this can be used for the sake of take a family photo while using the timer, or if you’re just starting out or have no interest in the mechanics behind what makes a great image.

What Brings You Peace?
I said I would make dinner today but it wasn’t until around 4pm that I really got the urge to get outside and take some photos - probably my internal photography clock becoming accustomed to going for walks during the ‘golden hour’ - so I threw some rice in our new rice cooker and bundled up to go outside comfortably knowing that by the time I got back the rice would already finished. It was a cold day, and we have an unusually large amount of snow so I wore my hiking books and my warmest jacket, throwing all of my hard-earned aesthetic out the window. Oh! Speaking of windows, here’s the first photo:

The phrase, "The brain is an amazing thing.", is said too many times, so I will say it again with a twist, the brain is an amazingly weird thing when you are me. It will look for anything to do for any small bit of action or entertainment. Humans are social animals for a reason and the Pandemic is a great display of that fact. People are willing to put their health on the lines to talk to others--especially during the holidays. I do not see the point of that and was happy to stay home and relax from school and work. It was the perfect paradise for me...well in the beginning at least.
