How I overcame everything that “Statistically” I shouldn’t have.
Growing up as an adopted child & being raised by a single mother was hard. For us both. We were two totally different people- with different minds, outlooks and experiences. I started out in a loving home, before I was taken away by my biological mother. Then, everything changed.

Perseverance is Key.
Perseverance is Key. Pain. Suffering. Anguish. Discomfort. All of these I have experienced. We all have pain we will face at some point in our lives. From an early age I experienced pain and suffering too heavy for a child. My mother told me as a child I was born with a rare disease, which caused joint pain and swelling. At five years old my hand closed at the touch of a cold milk container and had to be pried open. I was always given the bed or couch to lay on since I could not get up from the hard floor. I felt shunned by the other children as they huddled together telling ghost stories while lying in their sleeping bags. I avoided sleep overs for this very reason. As a teenager Ben-Gay and Icy Hot were my friends. I smelled like an elderly person but did not care because it helped with the pain in my knees.

Dear, Chirography
We met at a very young age. In fact, I was not the only one that you were introduced to at the time. Our relationship wasn’t the kind you see in movies, where two people fall in love in a matter of days. That doesn’t phase me though for those kinds of love seem not to last as long. I found it hard to connect during the early stages, hard to understand and to relate. It would frustrate me, seeing you get along with so many others while we couldn’t. There were times where I felt like giving up on you and crossing you out of my life every time we were forced together. I couldn’t bring myself to do that though for I learned very quickly that you would be an important part of my life that I would need forever.

Thankful to Be Me
A few quick blinks in an attempt to get rid of the haze blurring my vision. A shake of my pigtail-donned head to get the soil off my hair. The first deep breath the moment my mom removed the dry mud from my nose and throat. And the very first conscious thought I can remember after that little fall down a muddy rabbit hole... Looking at my tiny grazed hands, all my sparkling eyes focused on was the dirty bundle of plush I had grabbed onto during the tumble.

2020 Pressure
Movie Credit: Dead Poets Society Tis the season of thankfulness and good cheer, right? Some might stare at me like where have you been these last 9 months. What do we have to be thankful for when you have people who are at this moment taking their last breath, people who are struggling for food and finances, and having a hard time finding positivity in such a bleak world. It was the realization that there are other countries and areas of the world who live with this type of devastation daily that made me sit down and declare that things could be worse. To simply put in the words of Dr. Seuss “You ought to be thankful a whole heaping lot, for the places and people you’re lucky you’re not”. I made a promise to myself that not only would I be more grateful for the life and opportunities around me but also that I would start helping the world around me as well. So, to continue forward with my first promise. Here are my top 3 reasons to be thankful in 2020.

How Being Thankful Can Bring a Positive Mindset
Year after year, the world faces new challenges to beat and conquer. One of those challenges this year is the Covid-19 pandemic. During this time, the whole world came together to fight the virus and to survive. People’s lives have been turned upside-down, and some families have lost their loved ones. But despite these challenges, some of us stayed positive, resilient, and looks at the bright side. I think that there are still so many things that we should be thankful for, such as family, stability in life, the ability of adapting to situations, having the strength to face new challenges, and being resilient in spite of hardships.

Curb Your Instincts: It’s All Gravy
“Before modern medicine, one of the worst imaginable skin diseases was syphilis, which would start as itchy boils and then eat its way into the bones until it exposed the skeleton. In Russia, it was called Polish disease, in Germany, the French Disease, in France, the Italian disease.”— Hans Rosling, Factfulness

Just Be Thankful For Being You
A simple task was asked. What are you thankful for? Do you really want to know the first thought that appeared in my mind? Or do you want to know the other thoughts that appeared in my mind after I really thought about this question? I prefer to be 100% authentic when writing so I’m going to share with you my last thankful thought when I heard this question on what I'm thankful for which something that everyone should be more than grateful for.

Happiness in my own practice
What is happiness to you? Vocabulary.com defines happiness as, "feeling or showing pleasure or contentment" but it's something not so easily understood. The definition of happiness varies from person to person and can even change forms as we grow older but the feeling can remain the same. Happiness is enduring and understanding, enduring pain and hardships, not letting any outside force bring you down, and understanding the pain that the hardship brings is what happiness means to me but we all have a different view on what happiness actually is since we all strive to reach the “Island” or “Holyland” we believe in.
