In order to be calm, a person must have the right thoughts running in his or her head. Without thinking the right thoughts, it is unlikely for a person to feel level headed. Amongst the things one could do to achieve a calm mind are as following :

1. No action is the best reaction

Sometimes, even if there is a tremendous amount of pressure going on, it is important to remember to step back, cool down, and analyze the situation properly before showing or displaying any sorts of reactions that may only disadvantage you instead of helping you.

Any action that is to be taken for the situation must come from a sound and sane mind that has thought through things carefully. Remember that sometimes, no action is the best reaction towards anything that comes your way.

Give a few minutes till even days of delay, before doing any action. In this way, you will save yourself from regrets.

2. Soothe yourself

If you are disturbed, take care to always soothe yourself nicely. For example, supposed that you are a cleaner and you are tasked with cleaning a whole bunch of toilets, do so, while humming a song that you like or whistle away to a tune you remember.

In doing so, you effectively calm your mind by distracting it from the suffering you may experience while doing the task. Also, you get to have fun while working on that arduous job.

3. Stay composed

Staying composed must top your list of things to lookout for when you feel challenged. According to Google, the meaning of "composed" means :

having one's feelings and expression under control; calm.

By practicing points 1 and 2 above, you will successfully manage your emotions, not giving in to stress, anger, or unhappiness, and in doing so, you will stay composed.

You must also consciously choose what you want to feel or express, for example, you may choose to only display a front of cheerfulness to your colleagues, no matter what situations you may face.

This is the art of having one's feelings and expression under control, to keep calm, and therefore to stay composed.

4. Think of the next course of action

After having your emotions out of the way, begin by thinking to yourself, what is the right next course of action that I may take.

To do so, you may employ techniques such as brainstorming, critical thinking, or by using the logical and creative faculties of your brain.

You may ask other people's advices too as that part of problem solving, which is to get as much input as possible before deciding on a solution. In doing so, you gather yourself up with a bunch of possible ways to a specific outcome.

5. Plan a way out

With the possible solutions in your hand, start sketching away your plan of a way or path out of the situation.

Think of the vendors you may call, the relatives you might find, or the colleague who might have the knowledge to help you.

In the previous phase, you think of the exits, but in this phase, you need to figure out the pathways to reach those exits.

Assemble the team, gather up the villagers, find the henchmen, whatever or whoever it takes to get to your goal.

6. Make sure everything is alright

By now, you may have reached an exit to your problem. However, upon reaching this phase, you must review and recap everything that has transpired, everything that has been accomplished, and everything that has been experienced.

You must check carefully if something is still not complete or alright. Make sure everything is alright in the end.

This is so that the same problem will not come back and haunt you again and again. Be diligent in doing so and you will reach a permanent ending to your distress.
