When first introduced, vapes were claimed to be a healtier alternative to cigarrettes. However, there is a lot of evidence to suggest that vape use also puts smokers at risk of varous health problems. Not only for smoker, but other peole who inhale the vapor are also affected. This is also known as ''Secondhand Vaping"

it is a myth that secondhand vaping emissions from e-cigarettes are harmless. Many people think the secondhand vapor is just water, but this could not be farther from the truth. The vapor emitted when someone exhales contains a variety of dangerous subtances

Vape and Secondhand Vaping

Before we get into the dangers of secondhand vaping, you should know what a vape is. This is an E-cigarette consists of a cartridge, a light and a battery. when turned on, the vape device heats the liquid in the tube. This process will produce an aerosol or vapir that smokers inhale

This aerosol contains a high concentration of fine particles less than 1.000 nanometers in size. These compounds can trigger lung abnormalities when inhaled into the respiratory tract. The content of vape liquid and the resulting aerosol generally contains:

  • Nicotine
  • Propylene glycol and glycerin (chemical to vaporize nicotine)
  • Acetaldehyde, Benzene, Cadmium, Formaldehyde, Isoprene, Copper, Nickel, N-Nitrosonornicotine, Toluene (Carcinogenic)
  • Flavorings (contains diacetyl and acetyl propionyl which trigger respiratory problems)

So not suprisingly, when someone os close to someone who exhale the thick vapor of an electronic cigarette, they will inhale it too. Harmful chemicals can petentially enter your body.

The dangers of Secondhand Vaping

Vapes are said to have less harmful effects than electronic cigarette. However, it is important to note that vaping is not completely safe and still has mant adverse health effects.

A closed room (indoor) will be polluted when someone smokes a vape. Fine particles containing harful substance can be inhaledd into the lungs of people who are in the rom and trigger various health problems, such as:

  • Asthma and other lung disease
  • Eye irritation
  • Throat and respiratory tract irritation
  • Cancer
  • Addiction (impact of nicotine)

Teenagers are at greatest risk. in 2018 in america, as many as one-third of high school students said they were exposed to vape smoke. This is a 30% increase from the previous year

One in four children are passive smoker/secondhand vaping. Teenagers generally experience peer pressure in social settings, making it difficult to avoid environments that are harmful to their health

Those with pre-existing lung conditions are also at higher risk. If you have a history of asthma or similar, the affects of secondhand vaping will increase

The smoke released or an upper respiratory infection, yout symptoms may worsen during and after exposure to vape smoke.

To avoid becoming secondhand vaping. You should avoid being round people who are smoking vapes. If you can not avoid, you can ask nicely for the smoker to vape outside the building or in a designated smoking area.

So vape vapor is not only harmful to the smoker, but also to the poeple arpund them. That is why it is important to realize that vape users should not smoke vapor in enclosed spaces and should do so in designated smoking rooms. It would be even better if you stopped this habit altogether to improve your quality of life

To minimize secondhand vaping exposure, avoid enclosed spaces where vaping occurs. Ensure good ventilation by opening windows or using fans. Politely ask vapers to step outside or maintain a distance. Be proactive about your health by wearing a mask if necessary and advocating for designated vaping areas away from non vapes, especially shildern and those with respiratory issues
