Many people believe that as we age, we become less valuable in society. This perception has led to a fear of aging due to the added responsibilities, daily routines, and tediousness that often accompany it. However, what if there was a different perspective? What if being an old soul, regardless of one's age, had its own benefits and rewards?

Hayao Miyazaki was asked about his inspiration for creating the film, Howl's Moving Castle. He explained that he was drawn to the character of Sophie, a young girl who is cursed and turned into an old woman. Miyazaki did not want to convey the message that youth equals eternal happiness, which is often depicted in fairy tales.

Instead, he wanted to show that there is value in growing old and that being old does not necessarily mean being unhappy. Miyazaki wanted Sophie's transformation to be a learning experience, allowing her to gain wisdom and become a better grandmother when she reaches old age.

As Sophie grows older, she becomes more confident and straightforward, transforming from a timid girl to an honest and assertive woman. Miyazaki took a risk by featuring an old woman as the main character, which is not a common motif in films. However, he believed in the importance of Sophie's journey of maturing and wanted to convey an authentic message to his audience.

Having an old soul means possessing a particular perspective on life that implies intelligence and wisdom. This type of intelligence is not acquired by simply memorizing textbook definitions. Instead, it is gained by observing the world and comprehending the intricacies of why things occur. At first glance, individuals with an old soul may appear unremarkable because they generally do not engage in trendy cultural activities. However, they often have hidden depths that are not immediately apparent. If you believe that you are an old soul, here are ten indicators to consider.

1) It can be challenging for you to fit in with others your age.

You often feel like you don't quite belong and seek out individuals who have more life experience and wisdom. You don't always feel like you can relate to the latest trends and popular culture, and this may cause others to see you as an outsider or someone who doesn't follow the crowd. However, you value your unique qualities and are willing to be misunderstood if it means preserving the exceptional traits you possess. You want to continue growing at your own pace and seek out people who can support and encourage you to be your authentic self.

2)You possess a strong desire to gain knowledge.

You have a habit of connecting the information you acquire, whether it's from books, movies, or interactions with others. Rather than just superficially browsing different subjects, you delve deeper and meticulously explore the things that you have a strong interest in, which helps you grow wiser over time.

3)People seek your advice.

Many individuals seek your counsel, as they view you as a wise and mature individual. You are frequently regarded as a role model, even if you don't have all the answers. You possess the ability to extract valuable insights from even the most chaotic situations, thanks to your introspective nature. As a result, people hold you in high regard and trust your sound and clear judgments.

4)Ability to perceive the true nature of people.

You possess the ability to perceive people's true nature with ease. You have a talent for recognizing falsehood and deception even from a distance. You are skilled at comprehending people's motives and objectives, and you are cautious about who you allow into your life. Your ability to quickly understand someone's character often surprises others, making you seem like a natural psychologist.

5) You're not interested in dating.

The idea of hooking up is confusing and unappealing to you, so you opt-out. You don't engage in shallow flirting or manipulative behavior, as they're not part of your vocabulary. Your self-confidence is strong, and you have certain standards that you won't compromise on because they're integral to your identity. You believe that there's someone out there who shares your values and would appreciate you for who you are. When you finally meet someone who understands you, you value and appreciate them because it wasn't easy to find someone like that.

6) You dislike meaningless chitchat.

Talking about the weather or your last meal doesn't interest you. Instead, you prefer engaging in conversations that challenge your intellect. You are mindful of your choice of words as you value the importance of expressing your thoughts clearly. You possess excellent communication and verbal abilities, which sometimes intimidate others and leave you feeling isolated.

7)You appreciate having some space.

You enjoy having time to yourself because it helps you feel re-energized. You believe that it's important to go off on your own because being away from social situations allows you to think more clearly and understand things that may be difficult to comprehend in a noisy or hectic environment.

8)You are naturally sensitive and empathetic towards others.

You have the ability to sense and absorb the emotions of those around you. Whenever someone requires assistance, you are always ready to offer a helping hand. You possess a unique skill of viewing situations from various angles without being biased, and you always keep an open mind and heart.

9) You have a broad perspective.

The subject of philosophy piques your interest. You are unafraid to challenge the frameworks and establishments of society and seek guidance from the wise instead of blindly accepting things. You feel at ease exploring abstract concepts, and contemplating theories, and hypothetical scenarios. You tend to focus on potential outcomes, and you are primarily concerned with the future because nothing is more theoretical than the notion of a moment that has not yet occurred.
