love
All you need is Love, and Love is all you need.
Color of Sunshine
I could choose one color, but none of them describe you. You’re a burning rainbow with no color rule. You’re far too complex, beautiful and abstract. I couldn’t simply choose orange because nothing rhymes with that. Yet I see within your soul what burns and dances like a flame. Yellow shines because you are fierce as the light.. wild yet tame. As a Phoenix rises above the ashes with a fiery burning red. The color leads me to your heart it is pure as gold piercing through my head. A bright white blinds me as you sparkle different angles. As a diamond you shine bright like that of an angel.

The Diner
Her head is rocking in time to the blaring sound of Aerosmith's "Walk this way." She lets go of the steering wheel to play a little air guitar riff. The thumping bass prickles her skin as her leg rests against the speaker. Candace Blythe is cruising along at 80 MPH on I-40 through the longest stretch of the old Route 66 heading to Kingman. She announces to the empty cab of her Ram 1500 that she is not getting any kicks on Route-66 and chuckles at her own silliness.

Okasan
I don't know what to say sometimes. Words do not describe the depth of feeling that I understand when I think about you. My memories are convoluted and maybe, I am confused. But I wear many faces and adapt to the complexity that you showed me. Your intuition is uncanny: I did not realise until you presented me with looming death.

Love is Strange
Love is strange. I mean, how does one define love? There are so many different types, different meanings, different human interactions. Love can be defined as a philia, a deep friendship. The type where two or more people can have intimate, meaningful conversations but there is absolutely no physical attraction. Love can be familiar, totally selfless and unconditional. It means giving of yourself without any expectation of receiving back. There is a type of love called agape, meaning to put someone else’s needs ahead of your own. There is eros, a physical need which can be demonstrated through holding hands, kissing and in many more intimate ways.

The Spilling of Emptiness
Away from home in a neighbouring city, I was becoming a character worth reading about. Not yet a week had passed when my mothers voice called, dripping and hanging in an impossible balance, she had asked me to come back home. This creature that had clung to my mother’s walls, had pushed her way into the world, precisely six minutes before I came out screaming behind her, was gone. My mother had told us a story, a million times and then some. We both came out of her belly hating it here, screaming and kicking and outrageous to be alive. But then when we were put in a crib together, when we had been swaddled skin to skin, sharing warmth and wetness and life, we never made a sound.

Finding a Healing Mantra
Two years after my life took a downward spiral, I channeled a mantra in order to help me heal. A mantra is a word, sound or phrase you repeat to calm the mind, tune into the soul and to connect to the universe. The word “Mantra” is a Sanskrit word meaning “Man” and “Tra” (to transport). Mantras help you to transport the mind and look inward for healing.

Embracing The Rain
Embracing The Rain Since childhood, Cara Burgess had a keen eye for spotting details. She grew up on a farm 50 miles outside of London, where she would go on long walks with her mum, Beth. Her mum had moved from Australia to the UK in the sixties after she inherited a farm from a deceased distant relative. Beth’s family, sheep breeders who lived hundreds of kilometres away from other houses, endured the wilderness. When Beth’s mum, Sarah, went into labour four weeks before the due date, the Flying Doctors arrived on time but didn’t expect twins. The baby girl weighed 3.250 kg and screamed on arrival. Her little brother came 5 minutes later, strangled by his own umbilical cord. Her entire life, Beth carried the impossible burden to replace him. She sensed and battled her parents’ never-ending grief at having lost their only son. Leaving Australia with her newlywed husband twenty years later proved to be a relief, a fresh start to a bright future. But England’s winters revealed harsher than she had imagined. The old farmhouse, stable and fences needed constant repair. Problems mounted because money was tight and neighbours far away. Their only child grew up cheerful and sweet to counterbalance the parent’s daily fights. Their little girl never complained about boring potato dishes, feeding the chickens, or lacking friends. A simple decision to homeschool Cara. Isolation would protect her from long bus rides, being bullied, and later being taken away by social services.

The Soul Mate Connection
Back in 1994, I was coming off of a really unsuccessful marriage and all I wanted to do was turn my life around. My mom who at that time had already passed the age of 80 had been eager to return to her homeland Latvia. We also had the task of taking along my father’s urn so he could be reburied in his homeland in Ranka in a country cemetery not too far from where he was born and raised.
