THE HOTLINE
Sometimes things never get better no matter how hard a person tries... Well, Ivy tried hard to turn her life around for years struggling with chronic pain and depression. She was not the smartest person but she had supportive parents who encouraged her to always do her best. She also was a person of faith and that faith got her through many trials. Although she was a mediocre student she went on to college not knowing what career track she would take. Ivy eventually ended up in education and went on to become a professor. She spent practically every moment in the library in order to graduate. It did not come easy for her but she was persistent and determined to make something of her life. Ivy found a job she loved and she worked long hours during the day. But she was also her grandmother’s caretaker and she dedicated herself to her care every moment she wasn’t working. After living and caring for her grandmother for over twenty years, it was an understatement to say she was attached and loved her grandmother deeply. So she pretty much lived for three things...her grandmother, her faith and her job.

No risk, no Merlot...
Pushing the heavy door, Lisa threw a glance at everything around her and smiled. There were almost no people and that made the place even comfier. Taking off the soaked raincoat and wasting no time, she approached the bar counter with a confident step. After making her order, the girl started looking around, seeking a place to crash. Lisa chose a small table by the window that had a nice view of the gulf. Taking her powder box, she looked in her mirror. She quickly started tending to her hair, trying to make it look like it was before, lucky for her makeup remained almost perfect. When Lisa was finally satisfied with the result, she put her mirror back in her bag and started looking into the window.

Odd Ways of Love
Sitting on the stool I look around and am annoyed by the others in the sports bar. Their happiness and laughter seem to be orchestrated just to carve the heart from my chest further than it is already. Another round of laughter erupts from the table closest to me and I swivel around and see that one of the men are looking at me as he laughs.

There's a Difference Between Privacy and Secrecy
Several months ago, I matched with a guy on the Bumble dating app. I didn't realize it when I first looked at his profile, but the field where employment information goes was empty. I didn't know what line of work he was in or what company he worked for. The first time we spoke on the phone (prior to our first date), I asked him what he did for a living, and he was really vague. He said he didn't want to tell me where he worked yet because he didn't know me very well.

A Smooth Way to Go
Who knew where this night would go? Would it be the start of something great, or the beginning of the biggest mistake of my life. No matter what it would be an adventure for both Jules, and I. We had met through a very dear friend of mine. She knew I was coming out of a bad relationship and really wasn't ready for dating but also going stir crazy from this Corona Virus.

Mystery Date
I was walking home, smiling like a Cheshire cat when I heard my best friend behind me yelling wait. I stopped turned to look at her over my shoulder when she came running down the street! Kate was her name. She said I heard you have a date! I said indeed I do. She said oh man, been a minute for you. I glared at her and laughed. She went on, so who’s the lucky guy. I said I don’t know him very well, met him at a coffee shop and we just kind of hit it off. She said what’s his name, Ellie?! I said, Brian.

Segue way to social life
Seriously? What am I doing with my life?!! I inwardly sigh as I look around my shabby apartment. It’s so overwhelming, I don’t feel like doing one single thing. Legit. It has spots of crumbling plaster on the ceiling and water stains on the walls. Piles of half eaten plates of food and empty take out containers. Ugh. Mountains of clothes on the crappy mismatched second hand furniture. And a weird smell in the kitchen that I somehow can’t identify it’s exact location. Is this what my life has resorted to?! All I’m missing is like 10 cats to complete this sad scene.

My First Kiss with Laine
I’m here. I sent the text to the group chat, my palms moist and hands shaking. I had arrived ten minutes early. It was something of a superpower of mine, even when running late I still somehow managed to arrive at least ten minutes early. It always made first meets and interviews nerve-wracking, spending those ten minutes impatiently waiting. I chewed at my lower lip, waiting for those three little dots to appear on the corner of my screen.

Honorable Associates
The night buzzed with laughter and glass clinks as a jazz band played in the center of the room. Plates of elegant food floated out on the hands of impeccably dressed waiters. The room was softly lit in an orange haze by musty candles on top of golden candleabra's that seemed to forever burn without a drop of wax.

An Odd Lesson in French
The gym was one of the few places where I could relax and take my mind away from the stressful pressures that pulled me in different directions throughout the day. I’ve been training in kickboxing for a number of years, and I looked forward to the physical escape of a particularly hard session. That, and I had an ulterior motive…I needed a small favor from my friend and coach.
