Morning Merlot
Ember sighed as she heard her phone ring. She struggled to release her coat pocket’s grip on it as she closed the door to her one-bedroom flat. She knew who it was on the other end. It was Friday after all. Sarah, she loved Sarah. She was her first and only friend she had made since moving to London from the States. Sarah was this long legged, athletically built blonde with sparkling blue eyes and a smile that could set a room on fire. One would think she’d be a ‘mean girl’ but she was the exact opposite. She had the kindest heart and wanted the best for everyone she bumped into. Ember loved that about her. Ember answered the phone reluctantly to Sarah screaming in her ear.

It's A Date
I was sitting at home listening to the radio. My favorite song came on titled: I A m Proud of It All. Then the phone rang, I went to answer it. I said, "Hello". It was my sister Lee. We talked for a while, then she said, "I was talking to my boyfriend Ronnie and he said that his cousin Kevin is in town for a couple of days". Then Lee said, "Oh shoot!" I said, "What Lee?" she said, "I just spilled my glass of Merlot wine all over myself." I said, " I never heard of that before, it's wine?" Lee said, "yes its really good!" I said, "I'll have to try it." Lee explains, As I was saying, Ronnie asked me to ask you would you like to go to dinner with us? I responded, tell him I would love to go. Lee said, "That's great Darlene." I said "What does he look like?" Lee said, "Ronnie is handsome so good looks run in his family". I stated, I never been on a blind date before, but it will be fun. "I know I will be alright because I'll be with you Lee." Lee continued, his cousin Kevin is a district manager, and he travels all over the country promoting Merlot wine. I stated, he has a good job! Lee said, "Yes". He is here for only a couple of days so be ready at 6 o'clock. I replied, "Okay, this will be my first blind date!" We both laughed. Remember, I said, "6 pm Sunday". I said..."Okey-dokey." Then Lee said, "Let me pour myself another glass of Merlot wine." I laughed and said, "Good bye baby sister see ya Sunday." She said, "Okay bye, I love you," I said, "I love you more." Then I hung up the phone.

Finally.
Dream Date Matt and I met fourteen years ago in an AOL chatroom; I, just coming off of a seven year relationship and he, just looking for a little fun. We were in our mid 20s then - no expectations or the realization of what that first “hi” would lead to. Our conversations eventually transitioned to the phone and the languid flow of communication meant calls regularly lasting for six hours and ending with my Motorola phone needing an immediate charge. Both still living at home, we kept our voices down and lights off but the fluid string of laughs and eventual "I love you(s)," persisted.

21 Minutes
“As I sat there, phone shaking in hand, I knew this was it. I was finally going to meet my match. My last first date.” I’ve achieved success in almost every area of my life. I’m the youngest and only female data scientist at my company, I recently purchased a beautiful home in downtown Vallejo, and I have the most amazing group of friends and family. There’s one area though that has pretty much been a fail my entire adult life.

Mice and Merlot
Carla Sellers walked into the mouse shop, looking tired and far older than she really was. The tiredness and sadness she had been plagued by since her husband’s death several months before seemed to lift a little as she entered the shop. It was sizable, and cozy, with rows of incredibly large cages stretching out in front of her.

Dream Date
A perfectly guided collision, how else could it be described? Down to my knees scrambling to gather my things, upon impact I was so startled I threw my arms full of books and papers into the air! How could I be so unaware, looking up to see the person who shared my day dream walking precession. As my eyes scanned up my heart paces, increasing the rate exponentially with every moment. Then upon our eyes meeting, lost in the deep blue of hers, piercing my soul as if in that moment she is scanning every second of my life searching for something or just curious about what's in my mind. Breathless from the energetic information exchange, watching her voiceless as my mind continues to race. "Please forgive my clumsiness, I am so sorry to have run into you!" I state as my mind is overwhelmed. Without missing a beat she assures me all is well and she begins to gather up her dropped things. My heart is racing and I'm carefully trying to ensure I gather all of the loose papers. She says "My name is Alex and collisions like this never just happen, I would like to know your name and maybe meetup later if your game?". Caught off guard, I never have anyone as beautiful as her speak to me much less actually have a desire to know who I am. I quickly respond as if I wasted a moment it wouldn't be real, I blurt out "Andy... Andy is my name!" She looks at me with a smile I've not seen before, then says " well Andy Andy, I would like to see you again; are you free this weekend? Thinking to myself "I'm not sure, I don't know what I have planned...", "Sure!" I respond not even aware of what I had scheduled. In that moment I couldn't have cared less about anything else, I'm rather excited that she took a chance and asked me out as if it were left up to me we'd be friends for eternity... We exchange our contact information and part ways, I never stopped thinking about her not once the rest of that day.

It's in the Stars
It had grown late, and Shelby was beginning to think she’d fallen through time as she sat at her table alone. She was drinking her second glass of Tuscan Merlot and noticed that the restaurant’s crowd had drastically thinned since she’d first arrived. It had been an excruciatingly long week and this was a fitting end to it. So much for blind dates, she ruefully thought as she wondered if she would ever learn her lesson. Mentally berating herself, she reasoned that it was foolish to think she could meet anyone of any substance on a blind date.

Jeep
“I’m wondering how You wound up with me now In the back of your Jeep down Underneath this perfect sky” He sang timidly, his voice barely audible over the ringing sound of his guitar. If he had been able to find the courage to look up, he would have seen the amused smile on her face at the impromptu song. “The sky really is perfect tonight, isn’t it?” she sighed as the sound of the last chord trailed off into the quiet of the night. She rested her head on his shoulder and closed her eyes for a moment. He shuddered as a chilly breeze moved through the open tailgate. “Cold?” she asked as she wrapped her arms around him and pulled him in tight, inviting him into the warmth of her oversized red hoodie. He shuddered again just so she would hold on to him for an extra moment. He couldn’t remember a time when he felt so content. “Really, how did I get here?” he wondered out loud. He looked about as if in a dream world. He looked at the checkered picnic blanket beneath them, the untouched sandwiches next to two glasses of Merlot. He looked out at the field they parked in- so vast he could hardly make out the tree line, and he looked up at the thousands of stars visible overhead. “Because I found you, remember?” she replied.
