Navy's Wifes Song
The evening sun cast an array of colors across the light blue sky creating amber, pink, and golden hues. Slowly the brilliant light was disappearing behind the coastal line. The watcher sighed with a moment of longing. His brown eyes watched the radiance like it was new to him. The sight is likened to a lover's embrace, slow, unrushed, and beautiful. He knew she was watching her version of the same sunset. He sighed remembering the wife he left with three children under the age of ten, a dog, and a kitty named tripod because it would only walk on three legs, why hell he didn’t know. He chuckled at the thought of the kitten tipping over and his wife’s love for all things living. He ached for one of her smiles, for her. He honores the love she held for him, never once complaining over his departure.

Why did we keep doing this? Round and round and round, but we never hit the bullseye. In fact, we haven’t been “a couple” for months and I’m not sure why. We didn’t fight. There’s no big “problem’. We’ve been moving through the litany of our everyday life, leaving in the morning, seeing friends after work, returning to complete the circle at night, but we haven’t connected in a long time.

The waters were calm this day, and the winds fortuitous. The sea stretched before his eyes and over the horizon, a roiling mass of deep blue. It was difficult to believe England lay just across, awaiting their successes. A ship sat idly just across the jagged rocks, its sails yet to be unfurled. The first of the tobacco had been loaded onto it, and the men were rowing back for the second. If there were one qualm to be had, it was that perhaps the sun was too high in the sky.

Moments to myself happens allot and yet the more you try to comfort yourself, the more you fade into darkness once again. Reverting back to the kid you once was. Afraid, shy and confused. Wondering where my next meal would come from which person will mentally scar me next.
