This microfiction is part of a series. In order:

You may want to visit those first for context.

The information that the Master delivered was very interesting indeed. That there was another! He glanced to the glass where the girl was still sitting slumped, pinioned to the chair. He had allowed just enough easing of Disruption so she could function to assess the results. Oh, she was strong! He was going to have fun eventually breaking her!

He forced himself to relax. To the outside world, he was a robot; but inside he was hot with so many desires and impulses, so much contained violence, like a supervolcano. He felt the day was coming where it could all be unleashed. If he could just ensure his success...

"Who is he?" He turned to the Master who shifted under the renewed focus.

"We are unclear. Currently," the Master added hastily as he frowned. "He is not known to us previously nor do we believe to her. He is not a friend as such."

He turned back to the girl, who was twitching slightly. He sensed the Master's relief, revelling in the sensation. He liked the minor kick he got from intimidation, like a tickle of pleasure.

"You have eyes on him?"

"Yes."

"And you think he is a Perceptive?"

The Master hesitated. "Er," and then with a discernible gulp, "I can't say for certain."

He turned around. The Master was prepared. No visible flinch. He was impressed, for a man with limited respect for his fellow beings. It lasted a moment.

"He has not been tested?"

"He has only come to the fore this morning."

"You are watching?"

"I have eyes on him, yes."

The Master was trying to be strong. He admired his efforts. His confidence was growing. He would have to watch him.

"Then he must be brought in and tested. See to it."

The Master nodded and turned to go.

"Don't fail."

"No."

"Good."

There was a pause before the door closed and he resumed his watching of the girl.

He detected a slight movement from her, a jolt. Fascinating. It was a shame that he had had to kill so many of the others he'd captured to get to this point. He would have to be careful with this new one.

I think we have to return to Jason now, don't we? Now that the game is afoot?

I would very much not like to be in this man's presence.

A seed of defiance in the master! Love it!

  • Huh, so he has killed many before. Interesting. Yessss, let's go back to Jason!

Time to return to Jason and reboot his powers that were weakened while doing battle with the master's predecessor.

  • I predictably loathe villains, but they do cause the heroes to shine more brightly. My sympathies for the poor girl & what is heading Jason’s way. Well done to the Master, showing some spine… hopefully it will go Jason’s way… over to Jason… his turn to shine!

I agree. Return to Jason. Reveal a glimmer of his power. It should be a surprise and warning to those watching him and an absolute shock to Jason.

  • I second a return to Jason! Well-wrought!

I love a good villain! They’re always the most interesting! So good Rachel.
