Unique Kentucky Fried Chicken Items From Around The World
While American KFC focuses on basic fried chicken, international KFC doesn't follow the same rules
Most Americans think of plain old fried chicken and sides when they hear the words Kentucky Fried Chicken. Whether it's $5 Fill-Up boxes, a 16-piece bucket, or the Wednesday chicken fried chicken special, there isn't a lot of wiggle room for American KFC menu's.
Like other American fast food chains, KFC exists internationally and has quite the following - especially in Asian countries. Let's take a look at some of the most unique international KFC items!
10. Truffle Parmesan Chicken
Where can I find it? Singapore, Malaysia
Originally released to celebrate the 2019 Chinese New Year, truffle parmesan chicken was a big hit in KFC Malaysia and Singapore. This recipe featuring a truffle infused cheese sauce and shredded parmesan was intended to cater to a younger demographic by competing with other cafes making items like truffle fries.
9. Chachos
Where can I find it? Australia
KFC's version of "chicken nachos" exists in the continent of Australia with Chachos. Basically, this features an original recipe chicken tender topped with avocado, salsa, and "Supercharged" cheese sauce. It's an incredibly unique KFC item that, just maybe, might show up in the United States someday.
8. The Double Down Dog
Where can I find it? Philippines
Americans all remember the Double Down sandwich that KFC had for a while, right? Well, this takes that concept and amplifies it. KFC locations in the Philippines introduced the Double Down Dog in 2015 - a hot dog wrapped in a fried chicken breast complete with ketchup, mustard, mayo, or cheese.
7. Shrimp Burger
Where can I find it? China
Remember when I said that Asia loved its KFC? Well, this is 100% accurate and China specifically has some really unique menu items. The Shrimp Burger was introduced as a response to criticism that KFC's chickens were fattened using drugs and chemicals. Ever since its introduction, the seafood options have risen in popularity.
6. Deep Fried Corn Soup
Where can I find it? Japan
KFC Japan introduced this unique, hand pie that the Japanese cannot get enough of. Inside of this fried shell is a creamy corn soup that is described to just melt in your mouth. Personally, this menu item is definitely on my to-do list if I ever make it to Japan.
5. Shrimp Donut
Where can I find it? Thailand
Seafood is an increasingly popular option in international KFC offerings, and Thailand is no different. Complete with mozzarella cheese and minced shrimp, the Shrimp Donut at Thai KFC locations is fried, shrimpy goodness. You can choose to have this item solo, or it can be paired with a Zinger Meal as a side.
4. Yakiniku Bento Box
Where can I find it? Indonesia
The Yakiniku bento combines elements from American, Indonesian, and Japanese culture. While rice isn't typical for bento boxes, this fusion implements fried chicken, rice, and a lettuce and mushroom combo. And, of course, you can't have fried chicken bites without tomato sauce.
3. Chizza
Where can I find it? South Korea, China, Philippines, Taiwan, and Malaysia
Yes, the name is exactly what it sounds like. A chicken pizza exists in Asian KFC locations. Basically with this dish, pizza crust is replaced with a fried chicken cutlet and it is topped with tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, chicken ham, pineapple, and more cheese. Just make sure you say the name right!
2. Zinger Double Down King
Where can I find it? South Korea
Another version of the rejected Double Down concept hit KFC menus in South Korea - this time with the Zinger Double Down King. This sandwich features the two fried chicken patties acting as the bun, complete with a beef patty, bacon, pepper mayo, and BBQ sauce. If you're a fan of meat, calories, and sodium, this is definitely the sandwich for you if you find yourself in South Korea.
1. Potato Krisper Sandwich
Where can I find it? India
In a mostly vegetarian country, KFC had to introduce some meatless options - even at a fried chicken establishment. The Potato Krisper replaces a fried chicken patty with a fried potato patty, complete with a tangy sauce, and onions in between a bun. Typically paired with this sandwich are fried Vegetable Sticks and a brownie sundae for dessert.
