Burnt ends and loose ends
I was twelve when I learned that my grandfather was the Godfather of the KC mafia. I’d seen him on the news the night before getting arrested, murder the news anchor had said. A couple of days later though, here I was, sitting across from him in our favorite local joint, called Snead’s, celebrating my birthday with some delicious kc-style BBQ. The family sat along a row of tables that the owner had pushed together, trying to accommodate everyone.

Eating out is a scary thing for me, I often have a million and one questions going through my head. I have Celiac Disease, which means that my body is intolerant to gluten, rye, oats and barley. Living in Bremerton, WA you get at least six months of a rainy grey filter on your life. In spring, when the sun finally breaks through the clouds to warm your skin it is magical. All you want to do is spend time outside. The streets, and trails, are suddenly littered with people ready to take on the PNW outdoor lifestyle. People walking, riding their bikes, hanging out with their furry pals, and people eating. There are, admittedly, tons of “mom and pop” local places around town to grab a bite while you are out.
