Bombay Style Mutton Biryani

Prepare Bombay Mutton Biryani


  • 1 kg mutton, cut into small cubes
  • 2 cups basmati rice, soaked for 30 minutes

  • 1 teaspoon garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon ginger paste
  • 4 green chili peppers, slit
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 cup yogurt
  • 1/4 cup ghee
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup chopped fresh mint leaves
  • 1/2 cup chopped fresh coriander leaves


  1. Heat ghee in a large pot. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
  2. Add chopped onions and fry until golden brown.
  3. Add garlic and ginger paste and fry for a minute.
  4. Add mutton cubes and fry until they are lightly browned.
  5. Add all the dry spices, yogurt, and salt and mix well.
  6. Add 1/2 cup of water and bring to a boil. Cover and simmer for 30 minutes.
  7. Add the soaked basmati rice and mix well.
  8. Add melted butter, lemon juice, fresh mint leaves, and coriander leaves.
  9. Cover and cook over low heat for 15 minutes or until the rice is cooked.

Serve hot with raita or your favorite chutney. Enjoy!
