My Journey Through My School Years and How I Came Out Stronger
In a way, I´ve always felt like I was out of place. I was the shy girl who would run and hide whenever put in a situation where I would have to be around a lot of people. I felt awkward and clumsy. From the time I was a child through, although slightly to a lesser extent, my adulthood, I found more peace being by myself. It's ironic, because I enjoy being around people, but I'm terrified of doing so. I consider myself an extroverted introvert, a work in progress. This was never more true than when I was in school.
Ringo and Starfire: Pets by night, party animals by day
Recently, I have noticed strange things when I get home from work. Things are out of place. Papers are strewn about and food is left on the counter. The pillows on the couch are scratched and chewed up. I was very curious as to what happened. I have a dog named Ringo and a cat named Starfire that I leave at home during the day. I knew that they did it, but I wanted to see how they committed such a crime. I decided to install a camera to see what went on when I wasn’t home.
Stevie T, youtuber for the thirty-somethings
There are several youtubers that I love watching. There is a channel for every topic you could think of. Depending on the mood I am in at the time, I can always find a channel that lets me watch whatever I feel like. However, there is one youtuber that stands out to me above the rest. He’s one that I can watch and always find myself laughing with, despite how I may be feeling. But more than that, I can relate to him on a more personal level. This incredible youtuber is Steve Terreberry, better known as Stevie T.
The Dinner Party
One of my life-long dreams is finally coming true. I am getting to host a dinner party and invite whoever I want to it. There are so many that I have always wanted to sit down with and talk to. This is a chance of a lifetime, and I want to make sure everything is ready for it.
Best Friends: Twenty Years and Counting
To Janly, It’s hard to believe we have been best friends for over twenty years now. Looking back, it’s hard to remember when we became us. When I met you, I was just your brother’s girlfriend. My earliest memory of you consists of you locking me out of your house. And the time I bought you a toy stable for your birthday, which you proceeded to quickly destroy. Neither one of us imagined at the time how close we would one day become.
9/11 A Day Forever Remembered
It started off as a typical Tuesday morning for me. I was fifteen years old and a freshman in high school. I was sitting in my first period civics class preparing for a test the next morning. Suddenly the principal came over the loudspeaker announcing a plane crash that had just taken place. President Bush had asked for the nation to stop and say a prayer for the lives that were lost. I was confused at first, plane crashes, although very tragic, was not an uncommon thing. We didn’t realize it at that moment, but this was not just a typical plane crash. As we were able to gather more information, it became clear that nothing would be the same for our country, for mankind. The day, September 11, 2001, would forever go down in our history books as the day that we were attacked by terrorists. Nearly 3,000 innocent lives were lost when those planes hit the trade center.
A few weeks ago, the world was introduced to a new threat that quickly spread throughout. It was in the form of a virus, COVID-19, or the commonly referred term, coronavirus. I remember watching the reports on tv, and not really giving it much thought at the time. Afterall, it wasn’t the first time that new viruses were discovered. It would cause concern as doctors and the public struggled to study them, and then there would be a way to stop it from spreading. However, in this case, that wasn’t the situation. As everyone tried to understand what was going on, it was being spread from city to city, country to country.
My Journey through Heartache and Hope Part 1
In all of our lives, we are faced with obstacles that seem to come when we least expect it. I’ve been through a lot during my life, from the time I was a young child. For the most part, I feel as though I have made it through pretty well. That is, I’m still functioning with what I would like to still think of as an optimistic attitude. However, inside I feel what I don’t share with others, and that is the scars that have collected through it all. Many times I hold up a smile to mask the tears behind it. I write to let my feelings out a bit, and now, I share those feelings with you.
I remember sitting in my eleventh grade Social Studies class when my teacher passed out our FAFSA applications. We were also given booklets explaining the importance of getting a college education. According to this booklet, we were all but guaranteed a job immediately following college graduation. And each degree would over double our annual income. With this knowledge, one thing was certain...in order to get anywhere in life, you had to have that degree, and the greater the degree, the better.
The Beatles: A Life-Long Impact on This Millinial
During the 90s, I was a shy little girl living with her grandparents in Mississippi. Because they grew up in the 50s and 60s, I was introduced to the music from their generation at an early age. While other girls in my class was listening to the boy bands that were coming out at that time. I was gifted tapes of Elvis and Buddy Holly. I daydreamed of living during that time which seemed so much more care-free with poodle skirts, sock hops, and milkshakes.
The Room of Mystery
It was late at night as she cut the lights off that Julianne stood in the doorway looking back towards the room that quietly made such an impact on her life. As she stood there, memories began to flood her mind. Loved one that she had lost over the years, and those that were to come into her life in the future. She thought of everything that she had been through, and everything that was to come. This wasn't the first time that she quietly reflected in the darkness of night. Afterall, it had been a long road during her nineteen years of existence, but this night was different. It was time for her to move from this house that she was born and raised in. She was about to go out into the world. In a way though, this house helped prepare her for life ́s challenges. And then, there was the room.
Finding My Voice
I started writing when I was about ten years old. My grandma bought me a diary for my birthday. I loved writing down what would happen to me throughout my day. Soon, I began to expand to writing songs, poetry, even skits and scripts. In my writing, I found it possible to write everything that was in my head, things that I didn’t feel comfortable speaking out loud.
