Every night at midnight, the clouds came out to dance with the blushing sky. It was a beautiful sight. Sonya loved to come outside when everyone else was asleep and just look up at the marvelous scene before her. Tonight was no different. She laid a blanket on the ground and lay on top of it. All was silent, nothing but her thoughts kept her company.

She had almost dozed off when a loud noise suddenly jolted her back awake. She looked up to see a huge branch had fallen from a nearby tree. She looked around to see what had caused the break, but didn’t see anything. “That’s weird,” she said out loud. She stood up and walked closer to it. She heard whistling from behind another tree. With this, Sonya realized she wasn’t alone after all.

“Hello?” Her curiosity was getting the best of her. Who else knew of this place that she had hung out in since she was a child. It was deep in the woods, nobody ever came here. She heard laughter come from the same place. “I know somebody is there, come on out,” she said, slightly irritated. She jumped when a little man came out. He was only about three feet tall. He wore a funny little outfit with boots and a cone shaped hat.

I’m sorry I startled you miss, you’re the first person I’ve ever see out here,” he continued,” my name is David.” Sonya was hesitant, but something about David made her believe that she was safe. He was an older man with a white beard and a twinkle in his eye. “Hello David, I’m Sanya. It’s very nice to meet you,” Sanya answered. They shook hands and she offered him some water and food that she had brought with her. He accepted and took the water and a sandwich.

Sonya asked David why he was so far out in the woods. Was he lost? “I’m actually looking for my family,” he replied. He said that they had come from a far away village. He had a wife, and two children. Their village had been a very peaceful one where everyone got along. One day there was a mean man named Tom that came in and decided to take over the village. The people of the village worked together to try to stop Tom from taking over the only place they had ever known as home.

As hard as they had fought, the village was no match for Tom. He had a group of dangerous men that helped him. They had the ability to stop someone by looking into their eyes. Once their eyes met, their victims would turn to stone. The village was afraid and decided to pack up and start again in a new place. After traveling for a few months, they found a spot that seemed ideal. This was a beautiful place. The night sky was a beautiful purple with dancing stars. A glorious waterfall provided fresh water as well as a magnificent sight. This seemed like the perfect place to start over. However, there was a problem.

“I had come first to try to get things settled before I sent for my wife and children,” David explained, “but that’s been a month ago, I haven’t heard from them since.” A tear came down his cheek as he thought of his beloved family. He worried that they had fallen victim to Tom and his group of henchmen. “I’m sorry, is there anything I can do to help?” Sonya replied. “Only if you can help me find my family,” Tom said through tears.

Together they walked back towards where Tom had come from. The stars twinkled with more enthusiasm then ever before. Their hope grew stronger with each passing step. It was as though there was a greater force directing them along the way. They grew tired, but they kept pushing forward. Tom was unlike anyone Sonya had ever seen before. There was a kind gentleness that embodied him. She knew that she had to help him reunite with his beloved family. The journey had just begun.
