As I Wait
My dream of signing a traditional publishing contract has become a reality. I have a manuscript of my most recent short stories accepted for publishing by a small publishing firm in India. Now I wait for them to assign an editor to my work and for the editor to send me requests for revisions. Now having someone else do all the work is very new for me. I began self-publishing some years ago and I have become accustomed to doing it all. First recruiting a team starting with an editor, then formatter last but not least proofreaders. Many people think that using software like Grammarly will do the job of editing and proofreading. It is only a start. You need an editor to let you know when you are too wordy or not using enough words. Also, to let you know if you are on the right track with your characters and how you portray them to the reader.

Company or Being Alone
Sometimes I want to be around a lot of people like at a huge concert. Just watching the people and seeing how they dress for the occasion is fun for me. Some of them I criticize for their fashion choices. While others I admire how they are able to put together outfits that are unique especially if the clothing is not the latest fad. Men who sometimes ignore fashion can be real peacocks at some events. Like the men who wear alligator shoes or distinguish looking hats. The women with them are usually very sharp dressers. The type who are comfortable and know their body type and dress to accentuate it well.

Mary Gone Missing Part Three
Sgt. Breyer asked Elise how she is doing? “I am doing much better since staying with my Auntie Lynn.” Elise shares with Sgt. Breyer that her dad never wanted them to socialize with Mrs. Hall and he did not want us going to that house for any reason. One time Mrs. Hall sent a message to my mom she wanted us to come to the mansion for tea and my father scolded my mom for even entertaining the idea and demanded that she did not go or take us. My mom gave in to his request and nothing else was said of it.

Dragon in the Valley
There weren't always dragons in the Valley. Our village was very small and boring to me. Nothing ever really happened here. Everyone had a routine and followed it as though they were being watched or even graded by someone. One night the village shook vigorously for several minutes. Pots, pans, dishes flew everywhere. Then as suddenly as it started it stopped. Of course, everyone slowly ventured outside to see what had happened. Our parents talked to each other for a while. The children just looked at each other surprised and frightened. Soon everyone returned to their homes to clean up the mess.

He Stood Alone
He stood in the field and as the night became day, he started to understand the truth of his heritage and promise he would never deny his family again. John had been ashamed to be an alien among humans. His family was from the planet Saturn. Due to the human arrogance, he felt so very different and not worthy to be in their presence when he was a child. His physical appearance was the subject of daily mocking and disdain by his human classmates. His long arms (twice as long as human arms), short legs and globe shaped head made him stand out everywhere he went. Oh yes, he was also sky blue in color. Why, oh why great universe am I this wretched looking being he would say to himself as a child. Why can’t I be human, as a child he longed to be human. Why did my people all have to die in the great war and leave me alone in this vast universe? He would ask himself this several times a day before he grew more knowledgeable and learned about his species greatness. Saturnians were a great people of intelligence and nobility.

Mary Holmes is Missing Part 2
Now Sgt. Breyer is reviewing the information given to him by Ms. Hines he realizes that the Halls had been in the area since the Mayflower landed. The family has always been mysterious and reclusive. They never were in the public for any amount of time. No record of children attending any schools in the area. People knew their ancestors arrived on the Mayflower and just accepted the fact they were wealthy and excused everything else.

Mary Holmes goes Missing
It was very windy and warm for the season. Mary had been officially missing for three months. She went to the grocery store one morning and never returned. This had family and the small village of Oak Ridge upset all summer and now that fall was here most had begun to think of her in the past tense. Everyone was moving on with their lives as people do. This included her three young adult children. Her oldest Janice was packing to return to college in the east. The middle child Todd was a senior at St. Mary’s College and her youngest Elise was preparing to graduate from Amherst Technological School in the area. Elise was still putting up new flyers weekly asking people to look out for her mom and going to the police station every other day trying to find out if there were any new clues.

Childhood Summer Vacations
When I was almost eleven years old, we moved from Milwaukee, Wisconsin where I was born to Kansas City, Missouri. We moved because my father had to have hip surgery, and this caused him not to be able to work his decent paying construction job. His family was in Kansas City, Missouri and my mom’s relatives were about 130 miles away in Junction City, Kansas and about another 100 or so miles away in Wichita, Kansas. This meant we would be close to family. My father was concerned about us being in Wisconsin, with him not at his best without any family near us. He had to go on disability, and this caused him a lot of mental anguish for a while. My father was a proud man and not working his regular job to provide for us bothered him.

In Five Years!
Day dreaming is fun and can brighten up your day. You can be who you want to be and achieve your goals in your daydream. Five years from now I see myself getting on the New York Times Best Sellers list for the first time with about 15K to 20K books sold. This will put me probably in the mid-90s on the list. Since I am dreaming let’s say #95. I know at this spot on the list I am in a very precarious place. I can be off the list by the next week. However, I still dance around my home like a mad woman. Laughing and giggling out loud with a lot of joy in my heart. I know my next royalty payment will be the largest ever. I can get the local and maybe even regional newspapers to write about me if I move quickly. A week is not a lot of time. The best part I can say I am a bestselling author forever even if I am only on the list for just one week.

My Biggest Goal
My biggest goal is to end my life being fulfilled and ready to die. Right now, I am writing and researching my family history. I want to leave a volume of basic facts, photos and some profiles so any family member who wants it and is willing to pay a very modest price, enough to cover some of the money that has gone into it, can have one. Then I want to take the information in the volume and write about my family. Some of it will be in the form of profiles (hopefully with photos) and a narrative focusing on our ancestors who I can find more than a few words of information about them.

My Biggest Fear
As a woman who has been blessed in her life to have most of what she wanted my biggest fear is dying feeling unfulfilled. It is easy to do, and many people who have accomplished much and at the end of their lives felt empty. This is what I do not want to happen to me. I did not even think of this until the pandemic caused the USA to close down in March 2020. Being shut-in for a while and then having to use some precautions that I usually would not have to think about when going out I started to ponder about the end of my life. Before March 2020 I was too busy to think about the end. Just had so much to do that I would be physically tired at the end the day.

My Lifestyle Change
This is a journey and a test of my will. I now have to eat healthier to live a more productive life and it is not easy. Part of my problem is I love rich foods, lots of butter, some spice, cream and sweets. Now I prefer honey to sugar so this is a plus, however I still love sweets and bread! My battle is uphill I need to lose a minimum of 50 pounds to be at my healthy weight. You noticed I said healthy weight and not what is in fashion. Although there is a lot more focus on not body shaming people wearing a size 12 or larger. It is still not fashion forward as being a size 12 or less. Plus, let’s face it being overweight is not good! Caring fat around your middle is really not good. A lot of people who have heart trouble have fat around the middle of their bodies.
