Eagle and Scarlet Macaw
“How do we save our home” said Scarlet Macaw to the Eagle. Eagle said, “Our people started years ago to bring the idea of women as the protectors of water. They got the message in the 1970’s. Minnesota got the message in 1980’s. In present day, 2020’s the word is growing exponentially.

Nerd, Geek, or What?
I am not a nerd, not a turd, not third, just looking at a word here. I needed help and have signed up for a couple sessions with a tech person and still don’t feel like I am there. All is not at a loss, just maybe an app that cost, and I’m feeling lost, I just tossed, my hat in the ring, I’m teaching a class I sing. Well, not sing, just Native American culture class is what I bring.

My Life Changing Experience
I was married at seventeen, we had our second child when I was twenty-four. When he was one month old, he stopped breathing and we didn’t know what to do, so we were passing him back and forth and he was starting to turn blue. It was the end of August and a warm evening. Beautiful outside actually. And here we were in a panic. We were suddenly outside, and a neighbor hollered to ask what was wrong and when I told her to call an ambulance and that our baby had quit breathing, she hollered back to run him to the hospital. We lived just one block from Lutheran Deaconess in Minneapolis. When I ran as fast as I could to get him to the hospital, he was breathing again, then when he went in with the doctor, he stopped again. He was taken by ambulance in a baby incubator to the General hospital downtown. They poked and prodded him all night. It was really scary as at one point in the night they asked my permission to give him a spinal tap. They said that could kill him and if it was what they would be checking for and if we didn’t have the spinal tap, and he did have that condition, then that would for sure kill him. I was at the hospital alone. Many of my family and my husband’s family lived up north. My husband was at home with our daughter.

Home
Every year in my 30's - 45 or so, I took three trips a year into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA). Once a year it was a girls trip, which I loved as we would paddle in, find a quality campsite and stay there, taking day trips from that campsite. I thoroughly enjoyed these trips as we would go in just a little ways and then packing up and paddling out on the last day wasn't work. Fun times. In those early trips my friend Mary, was our leader and planner. Once I became familiar with the process, I could lead a trip. We had a favorite campsite that had the right cross breeze to keep the mosquitos away and it had a nice rippling stream that we took air mattresses down. So much fun in the sun and water.

You Don't Need Make-Up
I grew up never wearing much makeup and in my twenties, even less. Then there were children, I birthed two and my husband was a practicing alcohol/drug addict. When we were getting divorced and the judge mistakenly said, "And you have three children," I pointed at my soon to be ex-husband, laughed and said, "yes, I did have three, until today!" The ex didn't think that was very funny. How did I get to the point of divorce. I was married to this man for 13 years and we were together for 15 years. I knew from our early dating that he had a problem with alcohol. I was used to alcoholics. That is who I loved and continue to love. I grew up as a codependent, as the saying goes. And what does this have to do with makeup? Well, I am here to tell you.

Rosie, The Family Cat
Rosie was staying at the veterinarian clinic that my daughter worked at as a part of her high school program. Joanna met this little Siamese kitty that was not happy to be at the vet clinic, and she heard that it wouldn’t be long, and that kitty would be gone.
