Life in the WojBomb and ShamsWow Era
Seemingly, NBA free agency has cooled down. All of the major moves have been made with Chris Paul, Paul George, Gordon Hayward and others heading to new teams in pursuit of winning a championship/beating the Warriors/making that money. Even with free agency shifting from Paul and George to Monta Ellis and Nick Young, NBA free agency fervor rages on.

As most NBA fans were drooling over the potential blockbuster trade that almost sent Paul George of the Indiana Pacers to the Boston Celtics, two familiar faces had to have been on multiple phone calls with each other. One more stubborn than myself, and the other pressing hard for what he wanted in return. The result was that absolutely nothing happened, and I was left at 3 p.m. EST feeling slightly cheated of the Twitter storm that could have, and should have happened.

Over the past few seasons, we’ve seen some players, who have dominated the league for what feels like centuries, announce their retirement in unusual ways. They’ve given us a heads up.

Thursday night Frank Ntilikina was selected 8th overall by the New York Knicks. Phil Jackson selected the unknown European player in the lottery for the second time in three years. The first European player in the lottery he selected was Kristaps Porzingis, who was booed on draft night, but is now a fan favorite. Oh, and yeah, Phil Jackson is taking in trade offers about Porzingis right now too. What a great way to piss off already hurting New York fans. That’s one way to get you killed, Phil. For now, as of the 22nd of June, Madison Square Garden and Phil Jackson’s head is safe.

I am white. Too many of my musings require that disclaimer these days. But there it is, I am white. Therefore I have no idea how it felt as a black family to see Allen Iverson, braided and brash and black as dice craters snarl and spin his way to an MVP award.

The All-Star Break is over, the trade deadline has passed. Now it’s time for the NBA world to turn their attention to the playoffs, and more importantly, who will actually make it.
Tony HeimPublished 7 years ago in UnbalancedNBA Jersey Ads Are Trash
I hate the idea of having an ad put on the left chest of an NBA jersey. The Boston Celtics have agreed to place a General Electric patch on their sacred uniforms. Of all the NBA teams, I would’ve guessed that the Celtics would resist the patch — until Adam Silver threw down his quiet money-filled hammer to force the Celtics into putting some sort of ridiculous patch on the hallowed Boston jersey.

The Los Angeles Clippers have been looking for a new home in the L.A. area, but what if they moved East instead? What if Steve Balmer decided to move the team to the opposite side of the country in order to actually get past the second round of the playoffs before Chris Paul starts to sizzle down? Where would the Clippers go? Would they still even be named the Clippers?

Look, I want to start out by saying I’m not a fan of Kevin Durant’s move to the Warriors. But I have to say I’m a fan of what it may cause GM’s and players to do come this summer. If KD stays with the Thunder chances are none of these changes are made. I still think the finals have the same two teams. This move is forcing change. Players like Chris Paul, Kyle Lowry, and Gordon Hayward are now forced to look into options that may not be the highest paying. Would Chris Paul who was so influential in the new collective bargaining agreement really be thinking about passing up a 200 million dollar pay day had Durant stayed? Honestly I don't think so. Now I'm not saying Chris Paul is for sure out the door. But he has to think about winning. Paul just turned 32 May. The idea of teaming up with LaMarcus Aldridge and Kawhi has to entice him. However a reunion in New Orleans has to be considered as well. Pairing a guard with CP3 skill set along with Demarcus Cousins and Anthony Davis, two of the best bigs in the league would bring them into title contention. The real question is how his insurance agent Cliff Paul would feel about him leaving 80 million on the table for one of these moves.

Earlier this week, ESPN and Yahoo’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported the Sacramento Kings’ interest in hiring an executive above Vlade Divac. Divac is the Vice President of Basketball Operations and General Manager of the Kings. He has constantly been criticized and ridiculed for several of the Kings’ roster moves. These include the Nik Stauskas trade and the DeMarcus Cousins deal, most notably. Divac has the reputation of being one of the nicest guys in basketball.
Charles ManiegoPublished 7 years ago in UnbalancedHow Eliminating Conferences for the NBA Playoffs Makes No Sense
This NBA offseason has been a wild ride. It’s been so wild that we’ve completely forgotten just how top-heavy and boring the NBA proved it was after this postseason. That’s what happens when fireworks have been going off on a daily basis like the 4th of July was a month long. Now that the dust has mostly settled and we’re turning off Woj and Shams notifications to avoid being updated about players like Ekpe Udoh finding teams, we know one thing:
