The Art Of The Fool

Subtle Ways Of Love

Wynter Rhoads

This piece was created by my youngest daughter, two years ago. And displayed, among others, in her Senior art presentation. Wynter has been creating art, ever since she could hold a crayon. She has recently graduated from Herron School of Art, in Indianapolis and is preparing to move to NY for grad school. Everyday I am amazed at her skill and passion for expression. Using her pieces to create a story brings me unbelievable joy. Thank you for your time, in reading my work, but more for supporting a young, incredibly talented artist.

*

The prince and the pauper,

with their proper eavesdroppers.

Tells the tale of two lonely clowns,

spending time together, hanging around.

*

Maybe they'll get lost, in a sweet, sultry kiss,

when finally - the right moment exists.

Oh, wouldn’t that be poetic bliss,

to surrender to pure happiness?

*

Perpetuity resists, while emotions persist,

for such a sweet notion as this.

Butterflies flutter on by to insist, (remind..)

that all this started, with the thought of a kiss. (bear in mind..)

*

Some tea to commence,

on this road of suspense.

Removing them from this wobbly fence, (of denial)

potentially presents....(this romance, having put them on trial)

*

She pours, and he smiles,

knowing all the while, (his affections he boldly displays)

Pulling him from said fence, to a place of past tense,

to small little house and a white picket-fence. (quoting quips he learned from Hemingway)

*

RECAP:

Romance may be suited for clowns,

or just maybe, some fooling around.

But sometimes, that's what it takes,

to recover from past-"ly" mistakes.

Give in to the clowning around,

practice letting your heart's guard come down.

You may find when you do,

you won't be playing the fool.

**

(And the happiest of all are the clowns!)
