social commentary
There's a rich history of poetry serving as social commentary, intended to inspire calls to action.
The Call of Memories
Your laughter dances like the morning dew, Awakening my heart from weary sleep; Though miles apart, our bond remains so true, In every word you send, your secrets seep. Yet still you choose to ring when bills are due, To bridge the distance where our lives divide; With every “collect,” I feel the pull of you, A tether strung ‘twixt time and love’s sweet tide. So let me gather all your dreams tonight; Through whispered calls, we chase away the night. The laughter shared beneath the summer sun, With tones that dance like fireflies in my brain, A fleeting spark of joy that’s never done. Yet sadness lingers in our fractured lines; Her laughter echoes with a wistful sigh— An artful play where love and loss entwines, As moments fade but never truly die. Though distance stretches wide between our hearts, In every call I feel her warmth imparts.

Clouds
I've not done one of these for a few days because I've been concentrating my publishing on challenge entries. I was going to do a classic song, but over the last few days I've fallen in love with a new British band called unpeople, who are just awesome. Their album We Are unpeople was released today and is already in my top ten of the year. The band sound sincere, look like the coolest misfits, and dance between subgenres of rock and metal with purpose.
