I have a strong intuition,
and I have seen many other women,
with strong instincts, hunches,
sixth sense too.
I wanted to know the cause.
I found out there are many reasons.
Anatomical, hormonal and social,
they overlap.
More activity in brain regions
of emotional processing and social awareness
For higher perception,
women are able to pick up subtle cues,
the tone of voice, micro-expressions,
body language, are signal enough.
Estrogen is a master hormone that gives edge,
to female gut feeling.
It increases connectivity between
the two hemispheres of the brain,
integrates logic and emotion better.
Estrogen enhances activity in brain parts
amygdala and hippocampus,
which process memory and emotions.
The perception, and mood of women,
change across menstrual cycle,
as estrogen rises and falls.
Intuition peaks in estrogen,
just before the ovulation.
Estrogen stimulates bonding hormone oxytocin,
which increases trust, empathy,
and social awareness.
Women carried much of the responsibility,
for childcare and community care.
Being able to sense danger, read moods,
or anticipate needs was necessary,
for these tasks.
Women’s intuition also grows from observing,
multitasking, and juggling roles.
Intuition is the brain processing,
many small details so quickly,
that the conclusion feels instant.
Very interesting, isn’t it?
So next time someone dares to say,
women are weak or dumb,
remember this truth:
women often downplay their intuition on purpose,
to avoid unwanted male attention,
or unnecessary conflict.
That doesn’t mean they don’t get it.
I must say,
I always consult my intuition
in decision-making and,
save myself from trouble ahead.
“A woman knows by intuition, or instinct, what is best for herself.”
