Personal Disclaimer: This poem is to spread awareness for all women and men who are affected by it. It's not a direct reflection of my relationship with my husband, but there's something hinting at that in this poem as well, so enjoy!

Also,

If anyone you know is being abused, suspected of being abused, or are a victim yourself, there is help available. Local shelters and organizations are a good way to start. However, if more in-depth help is needed, call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233.

And remember, love shouldn't hurt.πŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œ

When is something truly broken?

Does it happen when something falls, is thrown, or has been beaten?

Or could it come from the words unspoken?

From someone who feels the unseeen scars deepen?

It's all of the above, maybe even more.

Now, allow me to spin a tale that you will adore.

About all the broken things and how to move on,

Please sit and listen before my thoughts are gone!

πŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œ

They fell in love so suddenly, I could barely blink.

A new apartment, new car, and a baby? Lord the poor thing was so overwhelmed, they could barely think!

Every day passed like a dream, they said,

Before I knew it, the two wed,

Locking their fates together.

For better or worse,

Dear God, undo this curse,

As these two live as one forever!

πŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œ

Six years flew by,

As the couple played rock-a-bye,

With two kids, expecting a third.

Lord, that Stork is one busy bird!

They looked tired and worn as life took its toll,

Almost as if a piece of their soul,

Had been taken away by love in their eye.

Now, they glanced at one another like a spoiled curd.

πŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œ

During a visit, they asked me,

"How do you and your husband stay so happy?"

"The two of us fight all the time! It's not normal, I read."

"We barely hug or kiss, and haven't frollocked in bed,"

"Please, tell me what to do!"

"I have nobody to talk to and nowhere to go!"

With a giggle and a kind smile,

I replied, "Alright, I'll help you, but let's sit for a while."

πŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œ

Sitting down with a steaming mug,

I gave my good friend a comforting hug,

And told them what they needed to hear.

"Don't underplay your relationship, dear."

"Not everyone handles things the same!"

"As for us, when I took his last name,"

"We made an agreement: never fight without reason."

"And no bed room activity? That's downright treason!"

πŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œ

"Now, don't get me wrong, we don't always give it a go."

"Sometimes things get in the way, and a no is always a no."

"It's important to listen carefully and communicate,"

"Ocassionally, find a sitter and go on a date!"

"Reconnect with your partner and you'll see,"

"Just how happy you both will be,"

"Promise me you'll give it a try?"

They nodded, gave me another hug, and said goodbye.

πŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œ

Weeks went by, and I'd not heard a peep.

I prayed within my heart that my friend and their partner are alright, or at least, getting sleep!

Then, as if on cue,

A text message dinged, begging me on what to do.

The third baby didn't make it,

Mommy couldn't handle it,

Everything is falling apart!

Please help me, I'm dying of a broken heart!

πŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œ

Once it was appropriate, I replied,

With a remorseful message that couldn't be denied,

I'm so sorry my friend! If you need me, I'm there, no excuse.

Yes, please hurry!

The little ones have begun to scurry!

Smiling, I answered with glee,

Auntie Rain is on the case, just leave it all to me!

I hurried there with my car, although after grave misuse.

πŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œ

While the parents handled the loss,

Auntie Rain babysat, rejecting the offered cost.

Then, when my friend and I were finally alone,

After everything was said and done.

They fell to their knees, shattering before my eyes.

Confessing a horrifying truth, much to my surprise.

"Rain, I'm being abused, sorry for keeping it hidden..."

"Speaking about it was strictly forbidden."

πŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œ

I hugged them tightly as their kids joined in.

The sobbed loudly, exhaling their concealed sin.

"It wasn't always like this, you know."

"At first we had fun, and our love for each other made our skin glow."

"Once we had the kids, they changed..."

"Before I knew it, we were combat engaged!

"No matter how much it hurt me, they didn't care,"

"Not even our new baby was spared!"

πŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œ

Eyes filled with tears, I hugged my dearest friend of many years.

"Thank you for being so brave, dear!"

"My God, I had no idea! Everything's finally crystal clear."

"Something went wrong, but it's not your fault!"

"And they made you keep all this pain sealed away like a vault?"

"They should be ashamed,"

"For inflicting a violence often unnamed!"

"Take a deep breath, my friend, I'm here..."

πŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œ

A year passed like honey,

My dear friend spent a lot of money,

To finally become free!

It took a divorce and a custody hearing,

But eventually their former partner's input had no bearing.

They, to this day, suffer nightmares and emotional pain.

But with support from me and others, we'll put all the broken things back together again.
