Octobers End
Daresay I lapse into nirvana, as an animal obsessed with air. Toil at the farm with fire in its eyes a young stud sees its reflection in a cow. Thrown in a heap, a bundle of cedar rails. What are the chances I was there? The scruff of a small rabbit lodged firmly between the jaws of a hungry calico cat. Green eyes peer from within the pile, a standoff reveals my image in that small tuft of brown fur within reach. The cat buries herself deeper into my palm. I found myself out of sight, obsessing. You at the sideline recoil into inertia.

Neither Here nor Now
The space between the driver's mind ㅤㅤㅤand wheel is neither here nor now. He watches his own life pass by ㅤㅤㅤthe billboard signs and power lines on a road as familiar as brushing teeth until ㅤㅤㅤsuspended ㅤㅤㅤthere— ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤthen flying out of view ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤas fast as a hummingbird's wings ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤfluttering ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤin a hot summer wind that sweet, syrupy smell, that steamy intersection and cloudbursts of sirens— smelling salts think... ㅤㅤㅤthink... was it ㅤㅤㅤreally ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤred? Afterimages materialized behind closed eyes like dropped frames ㅤㅤㅤof a silent reel and I wonder still, was anything ever real? Inside the plush red interior our crimson cradle, something remains beyond repair forever fixed in broken hearts. There are no airbags for the soul.

Where Unhappiness Once Was There Is Now Music
'Found Poem' from Ancient Twenty First Century Folklore by Mike Singleton. I used a rough formula of the ninth page, ninth sentance then nine words but that ended up incredibly rough! This is a beautiful book. It feels comforting to read and I think we all need a bit of that currently!

The Shape of Solitude. Honorable Mention in Negative Space Challenge.
The house quieted in shocked silence after the storm No frantic rushing from the back door to the front Tracking in bits of gravel and swears Impatience and anger Leaving one or the other or both open No shouting where are my keys GD it Where are my pants Where is my shirt Where is my wallet Where is my phone Where is the coffee Where is the milk Where is the bread More swearing when the dog stepped in front to say goodbye Gate left swinging crazily on its hinges, Opening and closing with the bang of a pistol A pair of dirty underwear lying at the front door

Walking Into October. Top Story - October 2026.
October challenge: Prompt - Write a poem that makes October feel like a place you can enter. Imagine October isn't a month. It's somewhere you can go. What does it look like when you get there? Maybe the streets are covered in wet leaves and porch lights glow before dinner. Maybe there's a bonfire somewhere in the distance, a house you shouldn't knock on, or a path through the woods that wasn't there in September. Your October might be cozy, eerie, nostalgic, lonely, strange, or something else entirely. Write a poem that turns October into a place and invites the reader inside. Give it weather. Give it sounds. Give it somewhere to wander. Then see where October takes you.
