Oh October
October challenge: Prompt - Write a poem that makes October feel like a place you can enter. Imagine October isn't a month. It's somewhere you can go. What does it look like when you get there? Maybe the streets are covered in wet leaves and porch lights glow before dinner. Maybe there's a bonfire somewhere in the distance, a house you shouldn't knock on, or a path through the woods that wasn't there in September. Your October might be cozy, eerie, nostalgic, lonely, strange, or something else entirely. Write a poem that turns October into a place and invites the reader inside. Give it weather. Give it sounds. Give it somewhere to wander. Then see where October takes you. Vocal Media

Baby Steps
I've lived a life of baby steps You see, baby steps aren't full steps They're half, maybe even less You wobble while you take them And sometimes you fall Face first onto the floor Nose smashed against linoleum Eyes watering, pride burning away But you get back up That's the thing with baby steps Baby steps come from resilience A willingness to try Over and over and over again Regardless of bloodied noses Bruised egos or elbows You just keep putting One wobbly little foot In front of the other And you do that until one day You look back and see That you made it through a fucking forest You climbed mountains One baby step at a time

Welcome to October
Welcome to October Where rusted colored leaves cascade from trees And spooky decorations clutter streets Welcome to October Where all the pumpkins wear jagged faces And the gourds are put out on places Like porches and horror themed bookcases Welcome to October Where the smell of pumpkin spice competes with The smokey breeze of a bonfire filled night Welcome to October Where the ghouls and witches come out to play, The masks and costumes are out on display, And haunted houses are where guests will stay Welcome to October Where the earthy taste of chili lingers And the sweetest candy is devoured Welcome to October Where you can listen to "The Monster Mash" As you succumb to a sugary crash While enjoying our Halloween bash Welcome to October Where the festive energy pulls you in And the goosebumps on your skin never end So pack your favorite fall themed sweater And subscribe to our weekly newsletter Because there is no place on Earth better Than October, and we can't wait to have you over

Samhain Feast
You step into a room of aromas: butter and maple syrup oozing over roasted sweet potatoes, one hundred garlic cloves sizzling in a Dutch oven full of olive oil, a sachet of rosemary, sage, and thyme submerging into a rich broth, pie crust blind baking in the oven, cinnamon sticks, star anise, and whole cloves infusing a steaming cauldron of red wine. You brought the most important part of our Samhain feast. Everyone is happy you're here.
