Value
A free verse poem on self-worth and identity

They weighed me on invisible scales. Decided my worth against shiny trinkets.
I told them I'd rather stand beside a frog than above it.
And they laughed as though I spoke another language.
Perhaps I did.
My tongue wags in many voices. I am the poet weaving words of wonder into sorrowful existence. I am the fool cackling to a joke no one heard. I am an amalgamation of characters.
So my value has been perceived by the lens of their warped views. A scale tipped against unseen forces. Their egos pressing against the clear resin that coats my mind, and my own looking out wondering what they would find.
