Rain Dancers
*
laughing like lovers
we walk
splash silly,
step—step—step for me
s__t__r__ i__d__e___ for him,
punting pooling puddles like pigskins
pink skin pruning
waterlogged wrinkles
my tiny hand in his
we Gene Kelly
across sopping sidewalks
his best James Dean
wearing down my Audrey Hepburn
my auburn hair
dripping fresh spring rain
and promises of first kisses
and lingering embraces
until
the sun dampens
our fun and we shrug
shuffling on
in silence
through pulsing city streets

I can SEE WHY it won that prize - it is fabulous, the alliteration, the pictures it pushed into my mind. Loved it!
Loved the simple, playful joy in this :).
