The Journey
long live adventure
because the expectant skies
would soon sully us with belly rain
and slumping roofs
like wizards’ hats on thatched cottages
could not stop raining cats and dogs,
we ran headlong
into the arms of that small fishing village
along the socked-in southern coast
with whisky peaty on our breath
_____
we were unfettered
in threadbare peasant clothing
that suited us for a time,
our warming hands beholding
a satchel of jangling coins
and your silver pocket watch,
the arduous journey
laid at our feet
our adventurous selves
blistered
but impervious to defeat
