Every dream that comes true
Comes with a price,
Like this newborn infant
In my arms at the hospital,
Putting herself between me and the world.
"She'll think you hang the sun!" shouted the nurse over the crying,
Even as the swaddled shadow crept across my light.

Incredible & nuanced.
I like how this one feels bittersweet, acknowledging the sacrifice and effort that comes with motherhood, and βPutting herself between me and the world.β is a great line. Nicely done Rebecca π

Congratulations on Top Story. I am happy to discover your writing and subscribed!
congratulations on TS. Even at ages 57 and 58, my sons are still my light and my darkness. The darkness only comes because both are handicapped and I worry about them constantly. The bright light is their attitudes towards their situations. I can't help but be so proud of them. Thank you for reminding me there is still light that shines through the dark.
