A Farewell to Fed
At the end of the day, a grown man has decided to stop hitting fuzzy yellow balls for a living. That’s the simplest way of putting it, and it’s an excellent way to keep things in perspective, what with all that’s going on in this world. And yet, for anyone who grew up watching the Swiss Maestro dance his way around the court, it feels like a part of childhood has been closed off forever. Another way to put it is that one of the best and most inspirational athletes that we’ve ever seen, has retired. The idea of the greatest of all time has always been subjective, and comparing statistics between players will only ever reveal part of the story. Some of his records have already been broken, and the rest will likely fall in time.

Water Trails
The wind whispers to itself, playing along the old boards of a lone farmhouse, seeking a gap to creep inside. Moonlight falls in muted beams, casting shadows long across the bikes and toys scattered through the yard. Reaching further, it moves into the fields of corn, long ears bowed and sorrowful. Finally, it pierces through the clouds to cover a solitary cross embedded in the dirt beneath a tree-swing, the white gleam chasing away the dark. Swaying in the breeze, the swing lies still, while the branches above stretch and scrape the milky sky.

Going Out With A Bang
It’s funny the kind of thoughts that fly through a person’s brain when they’re faced with impending death, and how vivid they seem. The biting smell of toilet cleaner. The strained warble of two blackbirds fighting for space at a birdbath. The punch of too much paprika in a curry. The moment where sunlight drops into a downstairs window in the late afternoon.

Being is EnoughRunner-Up in If Walls Could Talk
If walls could talk. Some people look at a wall and think there could be nothing worse than staying in one place your entire life. Never moving, never going, never leaving. “Life’s about getting out of your comfort zone” and all that.
