An Ode To Black
150 Poetry Prompts (1/150)
Black is the cloudless, peaceful night,
Black is the absence of all light.
Black is empty, black is silence,
Black is the calmness after the violence.
Black is the vast, endless distance,
Black is the space between all in existence.
Black is the mind, black is introspection,
Black is the object without a reflection.
Black is the purest, truest form of all things,
Black is the shadow of Satan’s wings.
Black is the universe, before the whisper of light,
Black is the heart without reason to fight.
Black is the evil, with which we all flirt,
(And to be honest…)
I just like how I look in a black T-shirt.

This poem is the first in the 150 Poetry Prompts list posted by The Vocal Community. The Prompt was “Write a poem inspired by your favourite colour,” which, I know, black is a bit of a cop out, seeing as it’s in fact the absence of all colour.
That said, I really do love how I look in black 🤷♂️ even most of my jewellery is black or blackish in its elements, combining brushed steel and leather accessories to complete my ‘look.’

Black is the void; embraced! That was an amazing piece!
Technically speaking, black is not a color though :D Nevertheless, enjoyed your poem!
Incredibly creative with a splash of playful. Perfect
Clean concise lines that are well structured. AND made me laugh at the end. Cool and double snaps to you black t-shirt-wearing guy!
This was very well written! It's hard enough to set color to condition, but to add an ebb and flow like this, something that almost feels like the ocean looks at midnight? That takes skill. Besides black is always a staple in fashion. 😉
I love what you did with this prompt. Black is a powerful color, psychologically speaking. That’s why you’ll often see figures of authority wearing it. People subconsciously take them more seriously when they’re in black. The feeling I got from reading this poem is that black represents the potential for good or evil. The absence of color, the void of light, it’s a clean slate where anything is possible.
Black is a great color and one of my favorites, and I also enjoy a nice black t-shirt
This is wonderfully written; also, black is my favourite color.
