Why Haiku?. Top Story - January 2023.
So, if you’ve been on Vocal for a while now (or at least since November ‘22!) you may have noticed, what Mike Singleton - MikeyDred lovingly refers to, as the “Plague of Haiku.” Since November, Vocal has announced three separate haiku challenges, the most recent one even being the chance to write a “Quadru-Haiku.”

The Life of Danny Trejo- From Ten Years in Prison to Superstar. Top Story - January 2023.
Danny Trejo looks like he came straight out of a crime story. He wears leather clothes and has tattoos all over his body. The permanent lines on his face and the fact that he has a criminal record prove that he has had a hard life. When he was young, Danny Trejo almost died in prison.

New Year; My Favorite Holiday. Top Story - January 2023.

What Writing a 100,000-Word Novel Taught Me. Top Story - December 2022.
THE END. Typing those two words in a Starbucks on December 22, 2022, lifted a burden from my shoulders. The story that latched onto my brain nearly two years ago finally had a home on my computer’s hard drive. Every character and every moment had been extracted from my gray matter and regurgitated in the form of a million messy keystrokes. Why Bukowski didn't try. And why you shouldn't either.. Top Story - December 2022.
If you’re like me, then chances are that at some point in your life, you’ve come across Bukowski’s wild, wonderful, and often, incredibly wise words. Chances also are pretty great that you’ve either been thrilled by his acute observations on human life or perhaps, horrified by his utter lack of respect for the conventions of poetic expression.

When You Don't Care About Christmas. Top Story - December 2022.
Deck the halls with lots of tinsel fa-la-la la-la la la la la Or something like that... right? Here's the thing, I don't celebrate Christmas. Why? Because I'm Jewish. Which seems like a pretty valid reason, yet the world is still screaming "Merry Christmas" in one ear and overplayed (yet catchy) jingles in the other.

The Anarchy of a Haiku Challenge. Top Story - December 2022.
Vocal Media has taught me many things through the poetry challenges of the past two years. First, I learned the traditional form of a Shakespearean Sonnet and drove myself quite mad counting syllables, creating the rhythm of Iambic pentameter, and stressing every other syllable. I worked hard. Then, low and behold, the winning sonnets broke all the rules. What?

An Artist's Triumph. Top Story - November 2022.
I grew up in a home where there was art all around me. My father was an avid art collector, and his passion included art magazines and books. Not only that but he was an artist himself, or more accurately what used to be called a “Sunday Painter”, which meant that he painted as a hobby. It was hardly surprising then that I soon developed a keen love for art, and began drawing pictures from a very young age, something that my father encouraged.

These Songs Helped Me - I Hope They Help You. Top Story - November 2022.
I don't know what you're going through and I may never be able to understand. I know you can't put it into words or make sense of it all; that's okay because neither can I. So, let's let the music do the talking.
