Fun Prompts and Activities for When You Have Writer's Block
When I first started submitting to Vocal, I couldn't wait to sit down and write that poem, or that piece that I had been thinking about for a while. I would submit maybe two or three pieces a week, but as the weeks and months have passed, and now that I have submitted all eight pieces to the SFC, I find myself not knowing what to write about! And, I suppose, the SFC was a bit of a marathon, and maybe I'm just a little fatigued. So, if you're like me, and you need something to get you going again (creatively speaking!) then here are a few fun activities and prompts designed to be done in just ten minutes, to get the creative energy, and your pen, flowing again.

Age Is Just A Number
As we grow up I feel we are taught this concept to be with a significant other who is in our age group. We are also taught to mature and act our age. What if someone else is able to mature faster than others? Than this person probably should not date in their age group I would say. My husband's 48th birthday is today and it had me reflecting on this today. I am 24 and I may not be quite as mature as my husband but, I can say that I have never really related to others in my age group.

The Sublime Tree
When I think of a Pear Tree the first thing that enters my mind is the passage from the song The Twelve Days of Christmas. "The First Day of Christmas my true love gave to me, a partridge in a Pear Tree." I see a partridge sitting on the top of a Pear Tree as if it were its crowning glory. Some believe that the Pear Tree is connected to teachings in Christianity as well as other religions. Many believe this tree represents comfort and peace. The pear is symbolized through art in the shape and forms in which artists represent women and beauty. This is most evident in the Baroque and Renaissance periods.

Coping
I want to write. I haven't had the chance to write too much but I have a feeling in my soul that I at least like to do it. I'm not saying I'm the next Steven King or anything but I do know that for 3 years back now I strangely enough developed a passion for at least just writing to myself.

How To Be The Most Likable Person
Do you know those individuals in your day to day existence who you simply need to be near? Who are staggeringly attractive, attract you, and are simply so darn amiable? There is something in particular about them that most probable causes you to have a positive outlook on yourself when you are around them. What is it about them that makes them so amiable? What are they doing any other way and how could they turn out to be so agreeable and attractive like that? All things considered, the present post concerning that! I need to discuss three basic propensities that any of us can never really turn out to be more amiable.

Are You Too Nice To Be Happy?
We are often told that we get into the way of our own happiness, but what does that actually mean? I recently saw excerpts from a book called The Top Five Regrets of the Dying by Bronnie Ware. Ware is an Australian nurse with years of experience in helping terminally ill patients in the months before they pass away. The book is about the one question that always came up: the biggest regrets people near the end of their lives have.

How I am using one Catholic way of living to help me move on from my past
You know nothing new comes under the sun… This is part of a scripture in the Bible. I came across this verse during the blur of lockdown in 2020. I call it my ‘soul lockdown.’ Something else was calling us during lockdown and I was desperate for some help - reading scriptural revelations and encouragement helped a lot (that’s for another time and story).
