9 Productive Things to do in Lockdown - that aren't "learning a new language"
When lockdown started and I was (luckily) furloughed from my job, I started googling loads of productive things I could do with my new-found time. Since graduating nearly two years ago in the creative sector, I'm always looking for new ways to build upon my skills and make myself more employable for my "dream job".

The Day I Waltzed With The World
I believe the world is spinning. Of course, scientifically, I know that it is. But I actually felt it myself, once. I was fourteen and my bare shoulders were pressing into a cold, tiled floor. I wiggled my toes, laying in the fetal position, while gravity held me down in a pool of my own vomit. The planet swung me around the sun, in the greatest waltz. I was dizzy and could not get up, but I did not want to get up.

I Just Got Drafted
I feel like I just got drafted. Saying that, I’m swept with a coalition of feelings; joy, anxiety, accomplishment, and motivation. But I don’t want to say it. As an athlete since pretty much birth, to say you’ve been drafted is a glorious statement above all others, an accomplishment that puts you in a league above all else. I’ve dreamed day and night of that type of achievement.

There is Hope!
We get up everyday without living a full life but a partial life not knowing what the day will amount to. Will it be a good day? Will it be a bad day? Will I be able to pay my bills? Are my kids gonna be okay? How am I gonna make it? Stressed about the future. But do you ever ask your self what is my purpose? If I were to die today and my life flashed before my eyes would I be happy with my life? Would I be able to look my creator in the eyes and face that judgement? What if there is really a creator someone who created me? A creator that knows how many pieces of hair are on my head! A creator who created me with a purpose to make a difference in the world and the life of others! What if I am someone that is an important piece to a puzzle and I'm living the wrong life that I was greater than what I've been living?! That you were created for a time like this!

Getting Through Hardships
Life can be challenging, there’s no doubt about that. If you’re going through a tough time right now, know that you’re not a lone because the one thing that we as humans have in common is experiencing the ups and downs of life. Some of us battle our hardships in private, while others go through things that every one seems to know or find out about. But no matter how difficult it may be, I want you to know that everything, including bad times eventually comes to an end. Every one has their own story and that’s part of what makes us unique as individuals. But here’s a secret: YOU decide how your story ends. If life seems to be overwhelming you, this post is for you. Healing Isn't Easy
A lot has happened since I first publicly opened up about the over 10 years of domestic abuse I lived through from age 9 to 19. The biggest change is the fact that I left on a round-trip from Sacramento to Ammon, Idaho on May 3rd, where I'll be staying with my close friends, Izzy and Sarah D.P., and their parents until August 8th.

When Has One "Arrived?"
So, I was pondering this question, in the wee hours of the morning, around the 4 o’clock hour, as I was placing homemade ham broth into containers for freezing - when do you know if you have “arrived?” It only introduced more questions that needed answers. So I decided inquiring minds such as mine might also be delving into the corners of their minds, swirling these odd thoughts, interested in the answer and decided that I would propose this question to the Universe (or whomever happens to stumble upon VOCAL and decides to take a gander at my writing.)

Validation in Quarantine
Why is it that people say when you have something on your mind, you should talk about it. When you talk about your feelings it will stop you from feeling the sadness that drowns you. I don’t feel that way. I feel like when I spiral in my head, I need to be with myself and not talk about it. When you talk about how you feel, there is a high chance of rejection, a high chance that the person who you are opening up to, won’t understand. That is why when you keep your feelings to yourself, you won’t have to deal with the rejection or the want and need of validation.

I Can't Breathe In The Milk Isle
His shirt is sitting on a pile of boxes, which is on top of another pile of blankets. It has been with me for months, since he and I went to a red light party in Brooklyn, back when that was a thing you could do, before over 1,500 people were dead in our state alone, back before this month, which honestly feels like a year. He tells me he is in the hospital; he is the second person I know to have it, and he could die. I picture his body, the times when we have gone out to eat, and he had eaten piles of pancakes, a whole Chili’s sampler by himself. I’m not skinny, but he is different. It never bothered me, until this moment, where my too vivid writers mind can picture him, his short black hair, his face underneath an oxygen mask, the blue too thin blanket over his too big body. And it makes me sick to my core.
