IT’S THE CLIMB
I often find myself talking about very raw subjects. The reactions I get from others can be concerning, some have even interpreted my views as negative and said to me, “you shouldn't be so negative.” I found this merely insulting, “ me negative?” Sometimes we need to reflect on these things to truly understand ourselves and others.

DAILY DOSE OF DEPRESSION
They say birds of a feather flock together, so why should the things we allow our brain to absorb everyday be any different? Time and time again we sit back and wonder, why we are the way we are. You may have already asked yourself "who am I" or "whats my purpose of being here", but still fail to answer the question. Do you know why ? The answer is clear to see, but its not visible to the nature of your vision.

Living Through History
What you learn while living through history Be flexible. The way you are living now is not guaranteed. In fact, it’s almost promised to crumble. Promised that the easy times will go. It is when you are comfortable that things fall. After Summer is Fall. Once the sun goes down, it’s cold. Winter is coming. If you can’t handle change, you can’t handle life. You will be left behind. Don’t ever get left behind!

Emotion’s Purpose
This is a long one so don’t read until you have the time and and an open mind. . . . If I haven’t told you personally, I’ll say it here: Ever since I was little, I would get this random bouts of knowledge from seemingly nowhere. My skin vibrates and it feels like I’m floating. Then my mind starts to race with random knowledge on subjects I know nothing about. I used to just ignore it but I’ve gotten to a point where I write it all down in hopes that it will help me to better progress through life, which it has.

From thought to action.
When you think of doing something you are half way there. It seems simple enough, doesn’t it? You have it in your mind, you can visualize the end result of your actions. Have you ever just ‘thought out’ your entire life? As you lay alone in bed, or perhaps next to your girlfriend/boyfriend or husband/wife, whatever the case may be, you picture your goals and aspirations in your mind. The degree, the car, the prestige, the fame, the fortune, need I say more? But there is one issue here, the DOING part.

A Letter To My Younger Self
In honor of Pride Month, I decided to write a letter to my younger self. I knew that I liked boys, dating back to the first grade. My now estranged parents never knew of this and I hid my sexuality until I was in my early 20s. They were conservative and from an African country called Liberia. If I had came out to them at seven years old, they would’ve disowned me anyway, harmed me, put me through conversion therapy, or all of the above. When I came out of the closet at 24, I still hid it from them until I finally told them in an open letter I’ve written here on Vocal about a month ago.

Food for the Mind
I'd like to start off saying...I am not the answer to everything. I find different ways to find success and happiness. I will provide 3 easy steps to get you in the right direction. First, close your eyes, and picture yourself successful and happy. Think about what your future life entails, see where it takes you, and how you feel while in that moment. Now, open your eyes and we have to realize that it is time to get to work.

Creative Block
I love to write. It's something that has come naturally since I was younger. Now my spelling is shit, and I can't say my grammar is perfect, but when you enjoy getting the thoughts out of your head it really doesn't matter (well maybe not that people are reading it, but whatever judge if you must). I never really had a "writing style" or a niche. Usually it was just random words that came to my mind that I needed to get out or made up lyrics to songs that had already been written. I'm the type of person that would rather text then speak over the phone, because when put on the spot, I freeze or say something stupid or wrong. When I write it comes out naturally, like I'm not even thinking and that my fingers just type (shout out to technology because my handwriting isn't any better then my spelling). For the last few years I've walked away from writing, besides the occasional thing for work or text messages. The last few months have not been easy-breezy for me and I found my desire to write come back, but this time was different. I had all these ideas in my head, ideas that I wanted to get out, that would wake me up in the middle of the night, but when I would go to write nothing came out. I would stare at the blank page, blank word document and nothing. It was like my brain forgot how to form sentences, like I couldn't get anything out. This went on for weeks. I felt like I was losing my mind, any time I did feel motivated to write, I would get easily distracted, instagram, work emails, oooo shiny object. If your feeling "blocked" like me, take a look at these steps that helped me get my writing on...

Waking up at 5 AM
Hello, for the next 5 days I am going to be waking up at 5 AM. I want to learn why it's important to wake up at 5. Why is it important? I have no idea; that's why I'm going to get my sources from two different articles. Then, I will see if that data corresponds with experience. The first reason is that you will have an open window in the morning to connect with yourself or your faith. By getting up early for uninterupted and non-rushed time, you'll have time for personal development and time to work towards your aspirations. Another common point I found was that you will reach your peak state or build that discipline for everything else. Increased motivation and confidence is brought to the table. You will become a more respectable person with integrity. I don't know how some of this is necessarily correlated with waking up at 5 AM, regardless, I am up for the challenge. I will be tracking my progress each day. By writing a short little summary of how I feel, what I did, and how waking up has affected me.
