Not being first.
Wouldn’t it be great to do everything as you planned, as you imagined it, thinking that you were prepared for it all? That you could conquer the world, and no one would dare challenge you, because you were so ready, so determined to accomplish your dreams. That what we thought when we got to high school. Wendy and I had been friends for a long as we could remember, when we entered school we thought we’d go to college together, we even looked the universities together and looked to see what program we could enroll to go together, that did happen I moved to different city, did something completely different, graduated with my associates and came home to finish school with her. One year in and it is not going as planned, I am failing, falling behind, I do not have enough to graduate on time.

The Daffodil
March 17, 2020: I came into our little clinic that day full of uncertainty. Tension and worry were palpable: COVID 19 was encroaching on rural Northern Idaho, and all the news nationally and internationally was bad. There were rumors swirling about cases, that there were people who had come in from the West Side (Western Washington) and they were sick. I didn't know if it was true, if they really had the virus. I just knew that my worst fear of a pandemic sweeping across Humanity was being realized. I did not feel equipped to deal with the massive number of deaths, the suffering, the fear. Images and stories of the Spanish Influenza pandemic of last century ran through my brain from nursing school. All I could comprehend was that I was wildly unprepared, personally and professionally. I thought about friends, family, my colleagues and patients. What if they got sick? What if they died? Would the clinics and hospitals be overrun with critically ill people? Would people be dying at home alone from a virus we knew so little about?

The Kettle
I have sat on sharing this story with you now for weeks. There is nothing pretty behind the truth that these birds so beautifully cover. And I myself have never enjoyed the feelings I conjur up inside just from saying the truth out loud. But here goes.

The Remote Working Experience
In the quaint state of North Carolina, the announcement of Corona didn’t send shockwaves of terror throughout the office. Most of my co-workers displayed mild concern and even relief at the corporate decision to work remotely. After all, the hassle of commute and appropriate attire were no longer the morning concern. Admittedly, I’d miss the catered office lunches. However, thousands in the metropolitan city of Charlotte were migrating home to continue work.

Contemplating Change
By: Tara Banghart Been thinking today, of how amazing it is, how we change year after year, day after day. Some changes are readily apparent. Some occur so slowly that we don’t even realize that they are occurring until one day it just hits us. In some small action, or reaction, or thought we suddenly see them. I reflect on the past year, and try to remember, to feel out the me that was there merely the year before, but I cant. Not clearly. Though I look at this as a good thing. I have known that major changes have been occurring in me these last 5 years or so….. but I did not really comprehend true scope of how much. Changes the likes of which I have not felt since the visions and evolutions I experienced during my illness. When I was called to my path with a clarity and strength I had never known. I have found such joy, such a wholeness and clarity of Spirit, such an expansion of sight and Self. I see my path laid out before me and my purpose is clear. I am striving everyday to fulfill my goals and purpose. And I am enjoying every step if the journey…..

The Bus Token
In March of 2000, I worked in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for a non-profit organization National School and Community Corps NSCC. While working for NSCC I was also trained as a VISTA Volunteer In Service To America literacy specialist. As a VISTA I was asked to attend 2-day literacy training in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. I was enthusiastic and excited, to say the least, to get the opportunity to visit the Pennsylvania State Capital. The trip accomodations were already paid for transportation, lodging, and food by the VISTA state office. All I needed to do was show up at the 30th street Amtrak train station on the day of departure and meet with my team leader and fellow VISTA volunteers. I can not remember exactly what day that was but I arrived there on time with two luggage bags ready for travel. The train ride to Harrisburg was smooth, quiet, and uneventful. We rolled into Harrisburg, gathered our luggage and a van was waiting for us to take us to the Holiday Inn hotel where we would be staying for the next two days.

How to Journal for Beginners
Have you wondered how to get started with journaling? This video talks about reflective journaling and how it is useful. Journaling is proven to help people in all areas of their lives. When I say Journaling, I don’t mean just keeping a diary, but giving yourself a safe space to write down thoughts and feelings. Then using this as a tool to release frustrations, give yourself a voice, reflect on experiences, understand your emotions or just clear some space in your head.
