Hello 2021
2020 was a hard year for everyone on a collective level. It taught us that all the things we had planned can change in a second. It taught us to slow down, it shook us to the core, and forced a lot of people to deal with demons they might have never seen in themselves before. However, although there were low low points, there were also high points. That’s how I choose to see 2020, in a more positive way. The lessons behind 2020 were unlike any year before, because not only did I learn things, the entire world learned things and there was sort of a shift of consciousness that a lot of people experienced.

Bootstraps Aren't Real
Like many others, I spent the past year in somewhat of a daze. I stopped working in mid-March and subsequently found myself lost in a sea of minimum wage job postings. I would scroll endlessly through every job board, searching for something to bring my bank account back up to at least double digits. It's been nearly a year and I still find myself spending my days in almost the exact same way I did when all this started. It really feels like I've logged "10,000 hours" into job searching, without actually becoming an expert at anything worthwhile. As you can imagine, putting all that effort in with no result can start to feel tedious, it seems that it may have also warped my own self-image.

Memories of 2020!And How to start 2021 correctly.
How to start 2021 correctly, and you will understand 10 small things I realized in a daze that 2020 is about to pass. This year, sorrow and joy have been mixed. Suffering from gains and losses. I want to summarize, but I have nothing to do in detail. In fact, I always regard New Year's Eve as the traditional year in my heart. After New Year's Eve, I feel that the year has really passed.

A New Diet
I started a new diet at the beginning of the year. At first, I was just going to hold myself to two weeks. The changes required great self-control and conscious decisions about what to imbibe. Though it started out difficult, it has become easier to adhere to as I feel the results. I am happier, less stressed, have more time for myself and my family. Perhaps we should begin there, with my family and why I felt the need to improve my diet.

A Fresh Start
Twenty-twenty, the word almost seems forbidden. It carries the same emotional weight and fear rendering reaction that the word "Voldemort" does. Only instead of "he who shall not be named" it's more like "the year that shall not be named". I think we can all collectively agree that twenty-twenty was not the most prosperous or joyous of years we as society have seen as of recent. With death, political unrest, isolation, and racial injustice surrounding us for the past twelve months I can see why many are ready to start fresh.

Metamorphosis
According to Webster’s online dictionary, the word metamorphosis is defined as “a striking alteration in appearance, character, or circumstances.” It is a word most often used to describe a beautiful transformation. It conjures up happy images of fairy tales and butterflies, but the word pandemic is anything but beautiful. For me and probably to most people, the year 2020 will forever be remembered as the year of force metamorphosis. Many Lives have been lost and altered forever, but as the year 2020 came to a close, a new hope for a new year is celebrated by many.

Find Your Purpose
Everyone in life has a purpose, though finding that purpose can be hard. Even when we know what the purpose is, the road to achieving that purpose can be long, tough and overwhelming. So sometimes we opt for the easy life, getting a job working for someone else, ensure its enough to pay the bills, puts food on the table and maybe an annual family holiday. We don’t want to worry about the poor, human trafficking or person next door. We just want to live. But as humans we are made to be purposeful and if we’re anything less, it just won’t work right. But how do we find our purpose?

New Year, New...?
When I was younger, I never really understood the point of New Year's resolutions. I mean sure, I understood the general concept but in practice, it seemed that time and time again it was always the same: adults making big plans and not following through on a single one of them. On the back end of these resolutions, I also saw a lot of bitterness, regret, and shame.

Brewed Awakenings
On January 1, 2017 I opened a small drive through coffee stand in the charming seaside town of Seward, Alaska. Although I had never been a barista before I had experience in the food industry and management. When you make espresso, it is particularly important that the grind is correct, you tamp properly and that your shot is extracted in a certain amount of time. In Alaska espresso is revered. And I am not stating that lightly.
