Do You Have to Get Up Early to Get Ahead?
NO, I groaned internally, rolling over as my cell phone alarm beeped incessantly. That was my first thought, every morning. Just NO. A heartfelt rejection, with all my being, of the idea of being awake, getting up, and starting the day. Why had I committed to this folly of setting an alarm? Being on a schedule? What was I thinking?

The death of the media woman
This year I'm going rogue. If 2020 taught me anything, it was the unpredictable nature of what a day can bring. The world stopped, and time stood still, and all of a sudden, I didn't need all the things I thought I did. New clothes hung in my closet with tags on them as the seasons changed. There was nowhere to go. My makeup bag, with two hundred dollars worth of products, stayed zipped up in the closet. New spring shoes sit, to this day, with flawless soles. I didn't even like those shoes all that much when I bought them. It was just what I saw other women wearing.

Satisfaction
There is a certain satisfaction that comes from completing something with your own hands. Building a home, writing a novel, programming a game, whatever your personal project is, there is immense satisfaction in accomplishing your goal. It doesn't matter if it's something personal for yourself, or part of a job, or something to show off. Isn't it amazing what we can create if we put our minds to it?

To Truly Experience
So, the lockdown happened. It's a whole new year entirely, as we've moved onto 2021 already. A whole deadly pandemic swept the Earth; a modern plague took place in our lives, although unfortunately most of us only ever truly pondered quarantine when we were hearing about the Black Plague Epidemic that took place in Europe in Social Studies or when sitting in front of zombie-killing action video games. So, so much was taken quite abruptly from our grasp, showing us honestly what it was like to lose. RIP to those who lost a loved one to COVID. Well, I'm here to spread some advice I think you should take when dealing with the rest of the lockdown that may make you a little more optimistic or at least appreciative of your life right now.

UNAPOLOGETICALLY ME
This year I am choosing to fall in love with myself. I am choosing to start this journey of loving me today; not waiting to evolve into the best version of myself. I am not going to wait until I have it all together. I am not waiting until all the quarantine weight falls off. I am not waiting until I’ve healed from all the pain I have endured over many years. I am not going to insist on meeting goals and objectives first. I am not waiting on others to encourage or support me. For the first time in life: I am choosing me. I have abandoned her and neglected her while trying to help any and everyone. My compassion is a blessing, but it has also been my weakness. I have compromised so much of me, that sometimes I’ve felt like I no longer mattered. Although I knew I was suffering inside, I felt others were more deserving of mercy. I’d be willing to starve so others could eat. I’d overwork so others could rest. I’d carry the burden so no one else had to experience the heaviness. I’d dim my light so someone else could shine. In doing these things I hoped to make humanity better. I knew that I alone couldn’t a huge difference in the world, but I tried to make a difference. I encouraged, uplifted, and supported others: it did not matter if they were family or a stranger. I just wanted to do my part.

No more resolutions: alarm clocks and rustic getaways
I wanted to do things a little differently this year: no big unachievable resolutions, no repenting on what I didn’t do in 2020, no judgment towards where I am and how things are in my life at the beginning of the new year. It is so easy to use the new year as an excuse to start a thousand projects that will never see the light of day, so this year I mostly focused what went well in 2020: the good habits I maintained, the new hobbies, interests and skills that I developed that I want to include in my life. Se here are five things that helped me kickstart 2021:

New Year, Healthier Me.
Each year, people make resolutions for how they can be and do better for the year to come. I myself have set New Year’s resolutions in the past only to fail to follow through with them for more than a few months. I'm not sure I believe in a fresh start or all of this "new year, new me" business. But, of course I want to believe that things can get better. I certainly have to believe that the future will be better for our overall health and wellbeing than 2020 was. 2020 was a rough year for so many people. It was a physically, emotionally, but particularly mentally exhausting experience.

2021: The Year of Overcoming Self-Doubt
There is a type of therapy called Eye Movement Desensitizing and Reprocessing (EDMR). It involves a therapist using typically a finger to guide a patient's eyes side to side rapidly while the patient focuses on a disturbing memory. The theory behind EDMR is that patients can separate certain memories from the negative emotions entwined with them and then be able to process the memories without feeling distressed. The separation comes from patients being distracted by their own rapid eye movements while they recall these memories.

Leaving University
Hi there, 2020 graduate here. 2020 was NOT the year the graduate. It was tough having to finish my final year of university during a national lockdown with no face to face help from my academic professors or even my peers. If I needed my supervisor, I had to call her on Skype. I had to email professors for help, if I needed assistance from my peers, I had to call them or video chat. A lot of my work in my final year was group based so I had no choice. This make it harder to complete the year? Definitely! It was incredibly difficult. I struggled like crazy and I had many moments where I thought, I want to give up. But then I pulled myself together and said to myself, I've been studying for almost three years, I can do 3 more months to get my degree; and those three months were three of the hardest I have ever had to go through. There was a lot of tears, a lot of having to call mum for moral support and finally, a lot of work.

2021 A Year to Mend
It’s one of the biggest celebrated clichés. Every year millions upon millions of people around the world gather to make New Year’s Eve resolutions at the start of the year, only to do something even more cliché by breaking them the first chance they get. The majority of these resolutions often relating to health, wealth or some major life goal.
