What Are You Really Sharing?
For many people, they simply don't want you to have an opinion, unless it's in line with their own. It's a sad truth unfortunately, but that's just how many people operate. Unless your beliefs, opinions, views, and even your behavior and actions, align with theirs, you'll find that many people will arc up big time. Rather than being respectful in having a difference of opinion, or just accepting that every one of us are unique and different in our own way, for some unacceptable reason, people become offended. In response, they criticize, they belittle, they mock, they ridicule, they get defensive, they get angry, and they even get personal. Prior to this age of technology, this might have been a disagreement that broke out in the street, or at a pub, or maybe at a workplace, erupting into a brawl or verbal stoush. Although this still happens, the most common form of these disagreements now take place online. Social media has become the ultimate platform for people to, not only express their views, beliefs, and opinions, but to also be able to criticize, ridicule, belittle, bully, and verbally abuse others, who don't agree with them. The most appealing aspect of this, to people, is that they can hide behind their keyboard in doing so, and not have to personally confront people. It's like social media has become the perfect outlet for people to take out their life's frustrations and anger, even if that is at the expense of others. Then we have those who love to use social media like a diary. If they had a bad day at work, or they hate their boss, or they hate their job, or they broke up with their partner, or if they personally don't like someone they live near or work with, or if they just want to have a whinge about how they believe that life is so unfair, and that their life sucks, social media becomes their saving grace to release all their negative feelings and emotions.

I want to be FEARLESS in 2021
I want to be fearless in 2021. 2020 was the year of regrets. Stuck in my home because of the pandemic, trying to figure out what to do about my future, I experienced intense waves of regret about all the things I had wanted to do for myself but never did. A whole lot of Should’a, Would’a, Could’a.

Slinging Art and Slaying with that Horn
Normally when I think about people making resolutions, I think about people getting gym memberships to start the New Year. Something else that is common, people vowing to quit smoking or drinking as a new years resolution. I resolve to further pursue a career as an artist. 2021 is about me taking a fresh look at what it means for me to create art.

The big shift
I have always been a people pleaser, inclined to always do my best to make others happy, often ignoring my own needs to feel accepted and valued. I hate conflict and I want people to like me, so I just give in and they are happy, or I make decisions in line with what people expect of me. I avoid conflict with others, but I have been fighting myself my all life. Growing up I was the one left out because I couldn't stand up for myself. My voice was never heard, never taken into account, I learned to accept and follow, swallowing my pride, my tears, my anger, until I swallowed any self esteem left.

Checkpoint
The idea of a fresh start is great. A clean slate. The opportunity to learn from the past and grow. But I am 29 and this is not the first fresh start I have had. In fact, every time I do not like the story, I choose to try again, to rewrite. I have even moved halfway across the globe to completely change my narrative. For me, a fresh start is not just a beginning-of-the-year list of resolutions I intend to keep yet never do. It is a daily quest to figure out who I am and create a new reality to shirk the responsibility of facing my previous attempts which I have deemed unsuccessful. And I am growing tired of it.

The Year Where I Flourish
As many people may be sure to agree, 2020 was not the year of our dreams. When 2020 started, I believed that I would begin working on my health, working hard to begin saving money- overall hoping to better myself, and my outlook on the future.

If not you, then who?
After surviving a year like 2020, it's probably reasonable to assume that the sole reason for celebrating New Year's Day 2021 was making it to see that clock strike 12:00. If you're like me, then you did not anticipate 2020 being anything like it was. Many of us started off last year with our age-old routine of making resolutions. You probably shared a #LongPost with a cute picture or two and an inspirational quote (because what is a social media post without one of those, right) and it probably got so many likes that it fueled a feeble and barely-there motivation to see those resolutions through to December.

New Year, Improved Me
In the beginning of this year I didn't have a list or any idea of what kind of goals I wanted to have for the upcoming year. I am happy with myself and my accomplishments in 2020 regardless of its circumstances. As we fell into the first week of January I came to a recognition. I'm perfectly fine with myself and have gained an excellent sense of self esteem and confidence, however, I could always improve little habits of mine to help build myself even higher and make the most out of the years to come. I started to think of some small changes I wanted in my daily life such as exercise and reading. Remembering to floss my teeth every night cause lets be honest, almost no one does that without lying. I started reading a book called "Atomic Habits" by James Clear and it is by far the best book I've ever read. Its a habit guide to steer you towards realistic and modifiable ways to break bad habits and create lasting good ones. I've started implementing its behavior strategies into my daily life to replace bad habits such as procrastination and overall laziness. I would use cues to help reduce my use of my phone and time watching television. For example I would read the book "Atomic Habits" during every break at work instead of aimlessly scrolling through social media or watching Netflix. Reading this book soon became a craving. I would be excited when my break came around even though only ten minutes long, I would use that time to gain more knowledge on how to better myself. My colleagues became aware of my actions and have even called me a self-fixer and wanted a copy of the book. At home I would use temptation bundling by right after I had a smoothie, I would work out and it wasn't intel I finished working out could I take a shower and then either read or write such as this contest or a school assignment.

The Revolution of Resolutions
A few years ago, I sat across from an older couple in their living room, drinking tea as they went over my astrology charts. "Ambitious" might not have been the first word that someone who knew me well would use to describe me. However that never worried me nor did I have any idea it might be an issue, until the indelicate way the woman sitting across from me that day would point out with little sensitivity.

Become An Enlightened Entrepreneur
Entrepreneur Henry Ford once said, “If I had asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses.” When Steve Jobs announced he was going to put a thousand songs in your pocket, people said he should stick with computers, and when Bill Gates dropped out of college, no one could’ve foreseen the success of Microsoft.

Listen to Your Heart This Year
Find a quiet space in your home and sit on a cozy pillow with your legs crossed. Comfortably rest your open palms on your knees and let your fingers naturally curl up toward the sky. Gently close your eyes and softly breathe in gratitude for what remains and slowly breathe out for what has gone of the previous year.
