Getting Out of My Own Way
New year, new me. How many times have I embraced some form or another of this phrase throughout the years? Every January feels like a new start, a fresh blank page in the notebook of life. Like clockwork, I take the proverbial pen to paper and begin writing my story anew, convinced it will all be different this year. But, like clockwork, I accidentally smudge the ink before I have gotten a few sentences deep into my new story. I forget the words I was so sure I would use to create my new reality. I am hit by a form of writer’s block that puts schoolwork procrastination to shame.

On Adjusting Resolutions
I've always had a sense of serenity at the turnover of the year. The ritual in those last few minutes is rarely exactly the same. I might count down with clocks and my family in the living room; huddle on a hillside with friends to watch the fireworks; stare at an explosion-studded sky from a small bedroom window, or simply turn a book's last page only to notice the milestone as it passes. Still, in every scene runs a common thread: I think about the things I'd hoped to be twelve months prior, and find in that memory a renewed resolve for self-improvement.

Connecting the Dots
Twenty-Twenty was a year for the record books, and I wanted a fresh start, so I put myself on a limited social media diet, committed to a green detox, and a renewed commitment to staying in shape. Everything was going well. We held on to our food shop, and I worked on a new plan for the business. Given the circumstances, the first three weeks of January went well, so what happened?

This Year, I Explore the Universe Within
When I gaze at the stars, I am held in awe. It is hard to rationalize the sheer size and vastness of the universe up above, as I gaze upon star after star. This light we see is from typically a being that no longer exists. Much like the breadth and depth of the universe, the inner workings of our minds are also a universe where exploration remains limited. This year, I am dedicated to diving deep, confidently hoping to understand more about myself and the world around me. 2021 will be all about self-exploration.

What If You Are the Monster?
I was reading an article this week about "The Monster At the End Of This Book." If you've never read it, you should. It turns 50 this year. It's fabulous. Sure, it's a kid's book but it's still fabulous. Grover from Sesame Street finds out that there is a monster at the end of his book. He gets scared and comes up with more and more complicated ways to prevent the reader from turning pages, hoping to not get to the end of the book. Of course, at the end, it turns out that Grover IS the monster at the end of the book.

Self Care in a New Year
2021 is a year in which we are all hoping for transformative change, and let’s face it- the bar is set pretty low. So there’s a good chance that we can set some achievable goals and fulfill them, because after the dumpster fire of 2020, it feels good to want to feel good. A fresh start sounds amazing, and since this is a time where stereotypical New Year's resolutions are set (and often discarded) it might be a good time to consider a new approach to fresh start goal setting for 2021.

Little Bit o' Peace In My Life
Well, thank God that’s over. Am I right? 2020 gave birth to a global pandemic, countless instances of hate, an economic depression, social and racial injustice, and a total upheaval of life as we knew it. Dramatic much? The Oscar for most dramatic performance goes to...

Getting back into writing during a pandemic
I have had some serious brain fog recently when it comes to writing – like a severe mental block. I know what to do to get out of it, but as of yet, have not had the motivation to do anything about it. Well, I mean apart from now – which is the first step. I’m not going to say I’m an expert, or even particularly skilled at writing, but I am trying desperately to kick start my brain again, which has switched to zombie-mode in the middle of a pandemic.

The Intention
There is this quote by L.R. Knost, I believe she writes parenting books and has a parenting magazine. Neither of which I have read or use as reference because my baby is now 16 years old. I did however read this quote while aimlessly scrolling a few years ago and it resonated with me -
