Thoughts From a Writer
While watching one of my favorite movies, I came to the realization just how amazing it would be to be able to do what you love every day and night; to dance or play music or sing or draw or even write all day every day. However, it wasn’t until I really thought about it did I really get what was happening to me. For someone like me, I couldn’t possibly write like how someone danced. Both share a part of the soul, as does any passion, but writing is one of those things that could dwindle due to not nurturing. For me, I have all these words and stories playing in my mind like movies, but so rarely am I able to express them like dancers are able to express the music inside them. I understand that dance is nothing like writing, as one involves the body and the other involves the mind, but they both help people showcase the passion they have in their souls. They both help to share beauty in the world.
Jennifer MartinezPublished 6 years ago in Motivation10 Ways to Better Your Life (That No One Will Encourage You to Do)
If there's one thing that most people will always offer, it's advice. This is doubly true when it comes to advice that will better your life in one way or another. People will tell you ways to better your life such as going to college, or paying into your retirement fund, or even by getting a cheap job.
Ossiana TepfenhartPublished 6 years ago in MotivationChris Rock and a Hard Place
Just last night, I watched the Chris Rock Netflix special. The usual commentary on race politics and gender relations filled the 60 minutes or so, but one allegory stuck with me beyond the notorious "black mirror" that we have become so accustomed to. As my unlit screen stared back at me, I couldn't help but dwell on Rock's reference to how relationships function much like bands. “Sometimes you’re singing lead, and sometimes you’re playing tambourine."
NoBeigePublished 6 years ago in MotivationSmile, It's Not So Bad
When I look around, something I almost constantly see is straight faces often turned down and looking at a phone. While being engaged in social media and our virtual world isn't horrible, it does seem to cause a disconnect to the world around us. It is also keeping our faces turned down in a more stern and depressed looking disposition.
Vanessa Cherron RiserPublished 6 years ago in MotivationLife Without Living
"None of this matters, so do what you need to survive and keep moving." Just a simple tweet among the countless others filling my timeline. Yet, upon reading it—though it wasn't some grand moment filled with exploding realization and magical emotion—it was a quiet, relieving epiphany; like letting out a heavy sigh.
McKenzie SimmonsPublished 6 years ago in MotivationQuestioning Popular Thinking
We all at some point of our lives want to fit in the society's perception and please its expectations. What expectations? Well, the right age to get married and have kids, what degree you should obtain if you want a good future, where to live, etc... Perhaps we do it because we want to feel ourselves as part of something, or accepted by a group, a community, or an organization. It might be okay, as long as you don't lose your own identity and keep your ideals. However, the truth is that these expectations please an imaginary individual called popular thinking. Even though many people may agree on certain expectations or thinking, it doesn't mean it has to be correct or, at least, the best way.
Alexander SarmientoPublished 6 years ago in Motivation10 Things You Can Do to Reach Your Full Potential
What we perceive our potential to be and what it actually is are two entirely separate things. It is easy to lose sight of your true potential in the midst of the daily routine. But there is never a wrong time to start moving toward the life that will lead you to your best possible success. Why not start right now?
Kelsey LangePublished 6 years ago in Motivation10 Ways to Be Human in a 21st Century World
In today's world, it is so easy to get wrapped up in how many likes a photo will get on Instagram, the latest celebrity drama on Twitter, and the funniest video on Facebook. What if we put the screens down? What if we lived in the moment? What if we opened our eyes to the world? What if we saw where we truly lived?

I recently saw a post online and it was a simple question. “What stops you from chasing your dreams?” My answer was simple, it’s fear.
Vincent GrazianoPublished 6 years ago in MotivationI Don't Want to Wake Up Most Days
There are some days I don't believe I can wake up. Some days I don't know if I want to move forward, if I can even get my feet on the floor. Some days I'm too afraid of the world to want to open my eyes. I am afraid of the empty feeling that lingers whenever I awake from my dreams.
Incipient PoetPublished 6 years ago in MotivationThe Dichotomy of Being Yourself
The Dichotomy of Being Yourself All of my life I have been sent this wonderful message of being yourself. I heard this message in TV shows, movies, cartoons from childhood, and from my teachers and my parents. They told me to shoot for the stars, to be true to myself, and all of those lovely sentiments.
Sally HollandPublished 6 years ago in MotivationGuilt for Feeling Good
Yes, this is a bizarre guilt. Maybe it is related to certain people’s mental health behaviors, I’m not sure. It is truly odd to feel guilty for feeling good, yes? This is what I feel about doing well. The guilt is ridiculous. I’m doing better than I ever have in my life with consistent blood sugars. I’m doing great, in fact. Although my last A1c was a 7.6% give or take an average of 171, I wanted to get that to an average of 150 mg/dl.
