Why A Compelling Visual Brand Identity is Important for the Success of Your Wellness Business

And how to do it right

You have a valuable wellness product or service—or at the very least an idea for one—and it’s time for you to make your mark and bring that value to all of your potential customers. One important area that may hinder you is your visual brand identity.

The wellness industry continues to grow

The wellness industry is robust and ever-growing. 79% of people believe that wellness is important, and 42% consider it a top priority.¹ The global wellness industry has experienced immense growth over the years, and after a decline during the height of the pandemic, a 9.9% average annual growth has been predicted, and is estimated to reach nearly $7 trillion in 2025.²

The evidence is clear: the potential for your wellness business to grow and succeed is only getting bigger.

Invest in yourself before asking others to

It’s important to invest in your own wellness business before asking consumers to. Think about it like this: if you came across a company selling a product that you genuinely believe to be valuable to you, but they’re clearly lacking a consistent and compelling visual look, how likely are you to invest your hard-earned cash?

If the visual identity doesn’t capture you, you might not spend enough time to truly understand the product’s value, or even what it is. If there are competing brands with similar products, but that have a thoughtfully designed visual identity, you’ll be more likely to purchase from them.

When you come across the competing brand in this scenario, it’s clear to you that they’ve invested in their own business before presenting it to you, and you appreciate this. It tells you that they take what they do seriously, and that what they’re offering must be valuable.

Your visual identity is the eyes and smile of your brand

When you meet another person, you’re most likely to notice their smile and eyes first. In a similar way, your visual identity greets your potential customers and gives them that long-lasting first impression. You want to make sure that what you’re presenting is welcoming, approachable, aligned with the value of what you’re offering, and is attracting the right type of person.

It doesn’t matter if you provide a physical product or a service. And even if your products are the type to be tucked away in the consumer’s home, your visual identity still matters. Having your branded product in someone’s home, place of work, and so on, is free advertising. It’s an opportunity for others to notice, to start a conversation, and to look into your offerings for themselves.

One example of this is when you go to someone else’s house, and in their bathroom you notice a skincare product with a visually captivating label and memorable name, and you ask your host “hey, that face serum looks nice, do you find that it’s making a difference for your skin?”

What is wellness brand design?

Wellness brand design is a niche of brand identity design focusing on the health and wellness space. It means having a cohesive look for every customer touchpoint, such as your logo, website, packaging, social media pages, and so on.

The Global Wellness Institute lists 11 sectors of the wellness economy:

  1. Personal Care & Beauty
  2. Healthy Eating, Nutrition & Weight Loss
  3. Physical Activity
  4. Wellness Tourism
  5. Traditional & Complementary Medicine
  6. Public Health, Prevention & Personalized Medicine
  7. Wellness Real Estate
  8. Mental Wellness
  9. Spas
  10. Workplace Wellness
  11. Thermal/Mineral Springs

Wellness brand design is important as it helps your unique brand make a bigger impact and attract the right customers within your niche.

But it’s not worth DIY-ing if you want it to be done right.

Would you have your cousin repair your car, when the only real experience he has is owning and driving a car? Would you attempt to fill your own cavities instead of trusting in a dentist? The point being, you are the expert in what you do, and for your visual identity to be done right, it’s best to take it to a professional designer.

Plus, taking design off your hands allows you to focus on improving the lives and wellbeing of your customers through your unique product or service. Your time and expertise is valuable and should be spent on what you do best.

4 signs it’s time to hire a designer

  1. You’re just getting started and want to make sure the job of brand identity design is done right, right from the start.
  2. You paid a small fee for a simple logo to get your name out there fast and on a small budget, but now feel that you’ve outgrown that logo.
  3. You have a good eye for design and have been wearing the designer hat, but now that your company has grown, you’re running out of time to focus on other areas of the business.
  4. Your branding hasn’t been attracting the right kind of consumer, or they’re confused about what you offer, and sales are suffering.

It’s nice to meet you

My mission is helping wellness brands make a bigger impact through custom, stand-out brand identity design. I’m as passionate about health and wellness as I am about great design (fun fact: I’m also a Certified Holistic Nutritionist and the creator of the wellness and lifestyle brand Well & Free). This industry is important to me as I work to overcome my own health obstacles and grow my own wellness brand.

As an owner of two businesses and a creative who has been working in the realm of brand identity design for nearly 8 years, I have a deep understanding of the importance of standing out visually in the wellness space.

At Erin Rachel Designs, we value from firsthand experience what that moment feels like — when you land on a visual identity that just clicks, bringing your mission and purpose to life in a tangible way. If we could bottle that feeling, we would! What we can do is help you experience that feeling for yourself.
