It is far too simple to adopt a few unhealthy eating habits in this fast-paced world. They may appear small and time-saving at first, but before you know it, you've fallen into a routine of time-saving activities that are ultimately harmful to your health by most unhealthy foods

What can you therefore do about it?

We will begin this article by discussing the mental and physical effects that some of these habits are having on you. After that, we will discuss a few of the ways in which you can begin to break the unhealthy eating habits that will endanger and possibly shorten your life.

If you're one of the millions of people who have the unenviable job of having to go to work and then come home and feed the family, you're likely to have given in to the occasional temptation to just get a takeout. Saving time versus shortening life with unhealthy eating habits Why is that a bad idea? You probably already know that there are numerous flaws in that.

Most fast food contains one of the following: salt, fat, starch, or sugar—some people even manage to eat all of those things—and we are all aware of the harm they can cause. Health insurance costs must rise to cover the fact that a growing number of people are simply unable to care for themselves as a result of these health issues, as obesity is becoming the norm rather than the exception.

Diabetes and heart disease are also on the rise, both of which can cause additional health issues. Why have so many people experienced this? They have fallen into a routine of eating unhealthy foods.

Even though getting a takeout meal every now and then won't kill you, it will save you time and be a quick way to end a stressful day. However, if it suddenly becomes easy, you might start taking it more often, which is definitely not a good thing.

The number of years you could be missing out on in your life and the lives of your family will far outweigh any time you save by not cooking. Additionally, this is a behavior that is far too easily inherited.

Okay, I know what you're thinking: "Fast food ads on TV are leading to unhealthy food habits." While this is true, it's not the point of this section. A recent experiment demonstrated that watching television while eating can increase consumption by as much as 40%. Because it can take as long as 20 minutes for the signals to reach your brain, if you aren't paying attention and just stuff the food in, you won't be finished until the brain has had time to catch up.

This is primarily because you are distracted while eating, and when you are distracted, you miss the signals from your body that tell you when you are full.

You've probably heard that eating late at night is bad for you, and it's true. Eating late at night can ruin your day. You will experience significantly more disturbed sleep if you eat less than an hour before going to bed. If you don't get enough sleep, you won't be able to do your best the next day, so eating late at night can ruin your day.

There could be a number of reasons why this will make it hard to sleep, but the most likely one is that your body is still trying to digest the food while you sleep.

What can we start doing to get rid of these bad eating habits?

Begin by cutting back on the number of meals you order from takeout. They may appear to save you time, but they start to add up in terms of how much they hurt your health and your bank account.

Believe it or not, preparing healthy, fresh meals does not require a lot of time. Some can be completed in as little as 15 to 20 minutes, while others may require you to wait as long as that in a local takeout line. There are a lot of excellent books that will show you how to make delicious dishes. Start with a week and see what happens if you prepare these meals every night.

Not only will preparing meals that are high in protein and fiber regulate your digestion, but they will also help you stay full between meals. A bowl of porridge, with a moderate amount of sugar, will keep you going for much longer than a cup of tea and some toast.

Are you dependent on sugar and salt?

The majority of foods already have a lot of salt, and table salt isn't good for you either. Before doing anything else, taste your meal before adding more salt. Try adding a spice instead if you think the meal still needs something. The majority of spices are much better for you and make the meal taste a little more exotic.

If you still want to taste salt, you should probably see your doctor. Get checked out because it's always better to be safe than sorry if you feel like you need more salt or sugar because of a diet problem or other underlying health issues.

Switch out your sugar. Try substituting sugar for regular sugar if you bake at home and want to make it a little healthier without completely sacrificing taste. There are a lot out there, some of which you can tell aren't sugar and others of which you can't; however, if you want something even healthier, try substituting honey for the sugar.

There you have it: some of the bad eating habits you can get into and some ways to get rid of them.

Instead of ordering takeout, try your hand at making your own healthy, quick meal. Turn off the television while you eat. Eat before going to bed at least an hour before. Consume protein and fiber to literally keep you going throughout the day. Spices can be replaced with salts, and honey can be replaced with processed sugar.

One final point: offer a smaller serving. Your brain will tell you that you aren't getting enough if you have a large plate with small portions. It is more likely that you will finish everything on your plate if it is served in a large quantity. You are more likely to start to feel full at that portion size if you fill a small plate with a regular portion size (about the size of a clenched fist).

Now, get out there and start changing your bad eating habits.
