Don't be embarrassed, we've all been fooled these commonly believed myths.

Knowledge is power. The more knowledge you have, the more power you can obtain in your private and professional life. But what about the knowledge that you THINK you have. Sometimes, the facts that we are so quickly to proclaim to others are nothing but commonly believed myths. Who knows how these myths became so widely believed. Like an old wives tale, their origins are unknown, yet trusted as true. Sure, some are just fun facts, but some of these myths can seriously effect your health. By debunking these commonly believed myths, we can truly get the most out of our daily lives, and make others lives better in the process. Don't try to contain your surprise while you read through the most commonly believed myths about life.

Myth: Dogs only see in black and white.Truth: Dogs are in fact color blind, but only in the sense that they do not see the full color spectrum.

Bulls react aggressively to the color red.Color has nothing to do with it. Bulls are attracted to the movement, not the color.

We only use 10% of our brain.Most of our brain works at full capacity, even during sleep.

Brain cells stop growing when you reach adulthood.Neurons flourish and change throughout your entire life.Ostriches bury their heads in the sand when they're scared.They actually 'fly the coop' when they are frightened. Touching a toad can give you warts. Toads don't cause warts.Reading a monitor in the dark deteriorates your sight.Your eyes will get tired more quickly reading in the dark, but the strain is not permanent. Split ends can be cured with the right hair product.The only thing that can get rid of split ends is cutting them off.

Chameleons change color to blend in with their environment.They change their color to reflect their moods (OMG ME TOO). Elephants are heavy on their feet, hence the phrase 'stomping like an elephant'.Elephants walk very quietly.

It's easier to catch a cold when you're actually cold.Colds are cause by viruses, not by temperature.The Blue Whale can swallow a whole car.A grapefruit is the biggest thing a Blue Whale can swallow.Moles are blind.Moles can see, they just have terrible eyesight.Our heart skips a beat when we sneeze.The heart's rhythm sometimes changes when we sneeze, but it never stops.Alcoholic beverages make you warm.Alcohol dilates your superficial blood vessels, making you feel warmer.Mice love cheese.Cheese is not a mouse's favorite food.

Humans only have 5 sense: sight, sound, smell, touch, and taste.We have at least 21 senses. For example, sense of balance and temperature.

Fish are mute.Fish make sounds similar to the noise on a busy farm.Sweat can remove toxins from your body.Sweat glands cool down your body.Carrots improve eyesight.Carrots help prevent muscle degenerations, including those in your eyes, but they don't improve your sight.

It's a horn on top on a rhinoceros' nose.Actually, it's not a horn. It's a particularly hard crest of hair.

In winter, animals get cold and therefore, they hibernate.Animals hibernate because food is scarce in the winter.Healthy teeth should be perfectly white.A tooth's natural color is slightly yellow.

Burns heal more quickly if you apply oil to them.Apply something cold to a burn, not oil. Oil makes a film on the skin that keeps heat inside.You shouldn't swim within 30 minutes of eating.Eating doesn't increase the risks of cramps, but a full stomach will make you short of breath.Caffeine dehydrates you.Not really. The diuretic effect of caffein is offset by the amount of water in a caffeinated drink. Evolution is a "theory".In science, a "theory" is anything more than a conjecture. Usually an extensively tested idea uniting data from many observations. Don't touch baby birds.Birds have a limited sense of smell, so they won't abandon babies who smell of humans.MSG gives you headaches.There is no proof to this myth, just anecdotal evidence.Body heat escapes from the head.Only in infants is most heat lost from the head.

You shouldn't wake a sleepwalker.They'll be confused, but not dangerous. They are more likely to hurt themselves if they're not awoken.

There are different parts of the tongue for each taste. Salty, sweet, bitter, sour, and umami are all tasted on the same parts of the tongue. Sharks can't get cancer.Sharks can get cancer, and are especially susceptible to skin cancer.You are a "left brain" or "right brain" user.There is no solid division between the talents of each hemisphere. These are metaphorical.

Salty water boils quicker.Adding a sprinkle of salt makes no difference. Huge, sea-level amounts do.

Shaving thickens hair.Regrown hair isn't thicker, coarser, or darker. The incoming hair just appears to be because it is no longer when tapered.

Milk increases mucous.Nope, it just straight doesn't. There is not need to avoid dairy if you have a cold.

No sex before the big game.There is no evidence that sex impairs athletic performance. Actually, it could help increase testosterone that boosts your stamina.
