Milk is the first thing that we taste after taking birth into this world. That first motherly touch, that first sip of divine milk, although we do not remember, our bodies do. But as we transition from infancy to childhood, many of us stop drinking milk. And then when we enter adulthood, most of us stop drinking it at all. The reason? That it makes us fat. But how much truth is there in this statement? Make a search on Google and you might get flooded with tons of supportive reasons from both sides. These conflicting opinions on the subject can make it hard to know what to believe. In this article, I will explore the topic of milk and weight gain and try to come to some conclusions based on the latest research.

The Great Milk Debate

As science has become the gospel of the modern world, it has started to pick up everything and put it under its critical lens. Milk and milk products are no exceptions when it comes to this. Milk and dairy products have been part of our diets for thousands of years. Not only are they a great source of protein, calcium, and other essential nutrients, but they are delicious as well. However, in recent years, there has been a growing concern that consuming milk or milk products could be contributing to weight gain and obesity. And know the reason why? It is the idea that the high-fat content in dairy products could be making us fat.

The Role of Dairy in Our Diets

From the time we started understanding language, we’ve been hearing that milk makes us stronger, richer, and healthier. Be it bone health, muscle growth, or good body fat, milk has been a source of all these areas. This is why it is the first food of all mammalians in the world. Milk is rich in calcium, which makes our bones stronger, protein, which helps in muscle growth and repair, vitamin D, which helps our body absorb calcium, and other essential nutrients. Together, these nutrients help our bodies function in a better way.

Milk and Weight Gain – What’s the Fuss?

There are studies that have supported the statement that milk leads to weight gain and increased levels of cholesterol. However, these studies have been funded by parties that hold an interest. This makes the results biased. But there also are studies that have stated that milk doesn’t increase the risk of heart disease or make us fat. In fact, a few of these studies have found milk to be positive for human growth.

The main cause behind these claims has been the fat content of the milk. If such is the case with you, opt for the fat-free milk products out there. These types of milk can even help you in your weight-loss journey due to their higher protein content.

So, is consuming milk or milk products making you fat? The answer is not a simple one. While some studies have found a positive correlation between dairy consumption and weight gain, others have found no correlation at all. And if fat is something that is making you sweat, opt for fat-free options. Also, if you truly want to gain weight, do not just focus on your diet. Introduce healthy physical activities in your life. Play, swim, run, or do anything that is fun and keeps you physically active. If you love playing sports, make the decision today and gift yourself some sporting goods. There are numerous alternatives to eBay where you can find sports equipment at a good price. Also, cut down on junk food that serves you no nutrition but calories alone.

The key takeaway is that dairy products can be part of a healthy diet, but like anything, they should be consumed in moderation.
