Is the right choice an electric toothbrush or a manual toothbrush?

If there is one point that dentists agree on, it is this: Brushing your teeth twice a day for 2 minutes is the most effective step you can take for oral health. Both electric and manual toothbrushes are effective in removing plaque and disease in which mouth causes decay.

Advantages of Electric Toothbrush

Electric toothbrush bristles vibrate or rotate to help you remove plaque buildup from your teeth and gums. Vibration allows it to clean more space every time you move your toothbrush over your teeth.

Studies have shown that electric toothbrushes reduce more plaque and gingivitis than manual toothbrushes. After three months of use, plaque decreased by 21 percent and gingivitis by 11 percent.

Electric toothbrushes do most of the work for you. They can be useful to anyone with limited mobility.

A timer built into an electric toothbrush can help you brush your teeth long enough to remove plaque from your teeth and gums.

When it's time to change the toothbrush, you just need to change the head of the electric toothbrush.

Electric toothbrushes are especially useful for people who are in the orthodontic treatment phase such as braces because they make brushing easier and can easily clean between the teeth.

Not all children are interested in brushing their teeth. If the electric toothbrush is more interesting for your child, it can help you achieve good mouth cleaning and adopt healthy habits.

When used correctly, an electric toothbrush will not damage the gums or tooth enamel.

Disadvantages of Electric Toothbrush

Electric toothbrushes are more expensive than manual ones.

Finding the right replacement brush heads may not always be easy. Because in all stores, there may be no titles in the brand and model suitable for the electric toothbrush you use. Especially after a certain period of time, when new models come out, it may be difficult to find the title of your old model. To prevent this, we can stock up when you find the appropriate title for you. However, this also increases the cost.

If more than one person at home uses the same electric toothbrush on the condition of changing the heads; in case of traveling, either the people at home or you will need to get a manual toothbrush.

Not everyone may like the feeling of vibration. Also, electric toothbrushes can cause a little more saliva production in your mouth. This can be found disturbing by some people.

Advantages of Manual Toothbrush

Manual toothbrushes have been used for a long time. They do not have the stimulating sounds and vibrations found in many electric toothbrushes. But they are still an effective tool to clean your teeth and prevent gingivitis.

If you don't have any difficulties using a manual toothbrush, you can continue to use it twice a day if you are sure to use it correctly and effectively.

Manual toothbrushes can be obtained from almost all grocery stores, gas stations or pharmacies. Nor do they need to be charged to work. So you can use a manual toothbrush anywhere and anytime.

Manual toothbrushes are cost-effective.

Disadvantages of Manual Toothbrush

According to studies, it was determined that people are more likely to brush hard while using manual toothbrushes. You can damage your gums and teeth with very hard brushing.

When using a manual toothbrush, it can be difficult to tell if you are brushing for enough time. You may want to consider placing a kitchen timer or a 2-minute hourglass in your bathroom to schedule your brushing sessions.

If you use the right technique and brush for long enough, both electric and manual toothbrushes are effective in teeth cleaning. If you have questions about which toothbrush will be best for you, talk to your dentist.
