We all want to feel good about ourselves, but today when we want something we think we can get it right away.

You see a friend playing the latest game on their phone and now you want it. So, what do you do?

You download it and you have it in seconds. But that only brings you temporary happiness.

We can’t remain in a state of happiness forever, although that would be nice, but we can find ways to hold onto that feeling for a long time (and no, I don’t mean drugs).

There’re healthy and fun ways for you to enjoy what’s around you.

Music is good for the soul

There are plenty of songs that make you want to dance. Let’s not forget that.

When working we may find ourselves listening to a podcast or a book on tape, but music can make us feel a certain way. Doing so can also improve your cognitive performance on tasks.

A study found that listening to upbeat music increased one’s processing speed while down beat music led to memory benefits.

So, while you’re dancing in the kitchen or studying for your next test, remember to thank that favorite song of yours for the help.

Music brings people together. If you had a bad day and you come home to your spouse listening to something soft and relaxing, you may feel more like joining them.

We all have our own ways of relaxing or enjoying ourselves and while podcasts are entertaining music is life changing.

Remember the good times

Life’s better when we think more about the good times. At least I think so.

We’ll meet thousands of people in our lifetime, but we get busy and don’t talk to most of them for a while.

Take time to reach out to someone you haven’t talked to in a while.

They may be happy that you called or texted.

Remember a good time from back in the day to reminisce. We all have a time or two in our lives where we laugh at what we did.

It will improve your mood and your friends. Who knows, it might even spark a memorable conversation.

Don’t let a bad day ruin this moment. Go into every conversation with a positive attitude and your day will change for the better.

“Life moves fast. If you don’t stop and look around every once in a while, you might miss it.”

- Ferris Bueller

Where can you find true happiness?

It’s not where you might expect.

You see people laughing on the beach or smiling at a fancy restaurant and think they must be happy in life.

What if I told you, it’s all a lie?

They may be relaxed but they might not be happy. Go back to the early days, waking up on Christmas morning. You come flying down the stairs to find all the presents under the tree.

You’re so happy to open yours and its exactly what you want, the perfect day.

Fast forward and you’re now in your mid-twenties. The anxiety of trying to find the perfect gift for someone is mounting.

You finally find it and on Christmas day the recipient is thrilled by the sight of it.

You may think “ok, so learning that it’s better to give than receive is where happiness comes from.” Not wrong but not where I am going with this.

It comes from evolving as a person. The progress you make at any point of your life will bring you more happiness than you can imagine.

Look for ways to improve yourself and you will be the happiest you have been in a long time.

Final Thoughts

It really is a great feeling when you are enjoying where you are in life.

Some of us will never understand this because the have let the miserable parts of the world drag them down but that doesn’t have to be you.

Find a hobby that makes you feel like 10 minutes has past when really, it’s been 2 hours. When you’re enjoying yourself, time just seems to disappear.

Get back in touch with those who you haven’t talked to in a while. They be missing you too and haven’t found the time to pick up the phone.

Life gets busy and it’s easy to lose track of what you want.

If you make time to continue evolving as a person, you will be the happiest person in the world.
