I Hunt Deer with Drones - Is This Okay?
Dear Ethicist, I live in Appleton, Wisconsin, close to the heart of deer hunting country. I used to hunt deer the normal way, standing in a blind for hours with a rifle. Now I do it the efficient way with an FPV drone. I put on the goggles, fly the little kamikaze out over the woods, get close to a buck, and detonate. One-click harvest. My friends say it’s not hunting anymore. I say the deer never stood a chance against rifles either. Is this ethically okay?

A Brief Tour of Everyday Moments When Your Brain Abandons You in Public
Human beings have accomplished extraordinary things; we built skyscrapers, landed on the moon, split the atom, and created tiny computers capable of accessing nearly the entire accumulated knowledge of civilization from our pockets. Yet, a waiter can say, “Enjoy your meal,” and a fully functioning adult will confidently respond, “You too!” And just like that, 200,000 years of human evolution goes straight down the toilet.

Putin's Hellish Wifi Problem. Top Story - August 2026.
Putin died. He didn't even see the Pearly Gates, was sent straight down to hell. He thought he ended up in the hottest part of hell. It was a million times worse than an infrared sauna he used to warm up his old bones in his bunker. And there was no water. Oh, and the torture he was subjected to, to compound the heat!

I think I'm being abducted by Aliens!!!
There was Heat, Missing Days and the Aliens Who Couldn’t Handle Earth’s Thermostat By now, I had accepted that my house was the intergalactic equivalent of a bad Airbnb. Every few nights, I dreamed (or imagined) that the same trio of handsome extraterrestrials would show up, sweating through their silver suits and arguing about the heat and unreliable air conditioning.

Clowns at the Center of the Earth. Honorable Mention in Too Hot for This Challenge. Top Story - August 2026.
The planet becomes largely uninhabitable, not by some dramatic event, but by a slow and steady stream of billionaire exploitation. Temperatures have soared to 115 degrees Fahrenheit (46 degrees Celsius). It’s a bit like Mad Max Thunderdome , but without the iconic sexy leather outfits.

Self-Checkout Is Just Unpaid Employment
There was a time when grocery shopping was beautifully uncomplicated. You grabbed your groceries, rolled your cart to the front of the store, exchanged a few pleasant words with the cashier, and someone, an actual employee, bagged everything while you wondered whether you'd remembered to buy ketchup. Life was good.

Too Hot Too Function . Honorable Mention in Too Hot for This Challenge. Top Story - August 2026.
“ DANGER! CROCODILES SWIM HERE!” It was humid. It was sweltering hot. For ten continuous days the weather was too unbearable to breathe. Fans blew thirty-five-degree warm air right back in our faces. The car AC refused to work, and everyone drove with their windows wound down, so that flies, moths and mosquitoes could harass us while we were trapped inside, dying within the walls of our tin can vehicles.

Why George Santos Should Replace the Bald Eagle as the U.S. Mascot
Paramount to the stars, stripes, and AR-15s that denote America’s identity is the nation’s emblem. This symbol is iconically American to the greatest extent. It appears on currency, passports, and stamps. It encapsulates foundational national values. Clearly, the official U.S. emblem possesses an unparalleled level of eminence and authentic American spirit. Even cowboy attire looks unpatriotic in comparison.

I Don’t Trust Anyone Who Answers the Phone Anymore...
There was a time, long ago, in a gentler and more naïve civilization, when the sound of a ringing phone meant something simple. It meant someone wanted to talk to you. That time is dead… Murdered. Buried beneath an avalanche of robocalls, extended warranties, suspicious silences, heavy breathing, and one deeply committed individual who keeps asking if you’ve considered switching to solar power, even though you live in a forest yurt, and haven’t seen the sun since 2009.
