humanity
For better or for worse, relationships reveal the core of the human condition.
An Open Letter to My Stalker: Thank You.
At fifteen, a boy who I vaguely knew through a friend of a friend took something of a shining to me. This is no mean feat when you attend an all girls school, are entering your teenage years and desperately want a boyfriend. Not to mention the fact that I was a little frumpy and suffered from acne. Any attention from a boy two years my senior was, initially, well received.

The Mixed Kid Defense
I am sure most of you have seen or heard about this woman hurling a racial slur at a Hispanic gentlemen. He had overheard her conversation and suggested she go to another store that might able to help her. She gets defensive and proceeds to tell him to mind his business and that she ain't afraid of no Spic. From the crux of whoever she was talking to, she was quite upset about being in the ghetto. Now I know that racism is alive. I know I am not an idiot to this fact but I find it funny how people are just being freely filmed while being a loathsome human being. These days, the racists seem to think they have a free pass for no longer holding back how they feel. I mean how do you actually function in any country knowing you have to interact with people of different ethnicities?

Remembering the Attack on Pulse Nightclub: One Year On
I remember the shock of first reading the news reports of the attack on Pulse nightclub in Orlando. A violent attack against people who thought that they were in a safe place. My people, the LGBTQ community, in a gay club in the US.

A Different Version of You & Chameleon Sky
Just something I want to share. Writing poetry is my passion, and I feel this would be an amazing opportunity to share my work here. The poem itself was inspired by my partner. He had hit a wall in his life and started to question everything about himself. At that point I felt helpless and didn't know how I could support him or see how amazing he was as a person.

Running Away is Okay — As Long As We Come Back
Remember that 80s song 'and I ran, I ran so far away,' from A Flock of Seagulls? If you lived through the 80s, you couldn’t get away from it. I loved that song, even when I couldn’t stand it anymore. It resonated with me on a deep level, one I wouldn’t understand for many, many years. Decades, even.

Which Stage of Survival Are You: Victim, Survivor, Thriver?. Top Story - May 2017.
At what point does a sexual abuse survivor (or any trauma survivor) go from victim to survivor, from survivor to thriver? In our society, the term victim has a negative connotation (don’t be a victim! a constant mantra); however, in a purely legal sense, those of us who have been victims of horrific sexual abuse or traumatic events are recognized by the law as victims, just as those who perpetrated those crimes are perpetrators. What happened to us is criminal, and those who committed these crimes are criminals.

To Cut or Not to Cut
With summer just around the corner, shopping for a new bikini, getting your workouts in and sunny climes are on your mind. There's also though that one extra nagging feeling... you know the one. It's probably been lingering for years, and you are slightly apprehensive about actually doing it. "Maybe I'll just take a few off on the ends, and see how I feel about it" you tell yourself. If you're brave and consider it "just hair," more than likely you're the friend in the group who's rocking a short haircut - or should be.
