Ariana Barrett
The freshman competed in both track and cross country action. With a growing base on Instagram that's approaching 10,000 followers, Barrett has chosen to use her account in a caring way. If you go on her story feed there are multiple posts in support of the Black Lives Matter movement. She encourages people to sign petitions, challenges people to change their negative views about African Americans and calls out an oppressive system that has too long had its foot on the neck of people of color.
Barrett finds the time to create change in this world while being a student athlete and enjoying life as a young person should.
Jessica Beard
True story. My 11-year-old son asked me the other day, "Who is the best athlete you ever met?" Keep in mind, I've covered a lot of major sporting events. I've come across LeBron James, Serena and Venus Williams but when I answered, I said, "Jessica Beard."
I saw her set a 400 meters stadium record in a college facility, that Ohio State calls home, when she was in high school back in 2007 and that record still stands. Beard has won eight world championships from 2006 to 2019.
She's also won three under-20 USATF championships and three NCAA championships. Signed to Adidas, Beard, now 31, is still one of the best 400-meter sprinters on the planet as she ranked 15th in the world as of March 31, 2020, before the season closed due to the pandemic of COVID-19.
Jenna de Leon
Here's a personal online fitness trainer that is all in. Jenna de Leon shares her story to her 268,000 fans on her IGTV account. She talks about how she was having a hard time in her personal life in her homeland of Trinidad & Tobago. She said she was lonely, living in a one-room appartment trying to escape a life with limited resources. She began her fitness career, won the Arnold Classic twice and made history for Caribbean women who compete in pro bikini competitions.
On her page de Leon showcases her physique and gives workout demonstrations on how to have "Killer Abs," and "Grow Your Booty." On her second page @balancedappetite she shares various types of meals to keep you sharp and healthy. De Leon comes across as a person who really cares about what she does as well as the people she serves.
Tiara Scoops
Tiara Scoops is another fitness trainer in this installment. With over 177,000 Instagram followers, this expert's IGTV videos are doing strong numbers. Her "Flat Tummy" video is over 24,000 views. She did a "Back Fat" video that she labled "Back Workouts for Women," which has over 21,000 views.
On July 3, she announced that her resistance bands sold out. She said that her next collection of bands will be shipping internationally. Scoops pushes her followers to discipline their diets. One 30-day challenge instructed participants to go without burgers, chips, ice cream, fast food, chocolate, white bread, soda, cakes, donuts, cookies and candy.
Scoops personal history in athletics include competitive swimming and cheerleading. She overcame despression when she started loving herself and commiting to a healthier lifestyle. Today she shares that love with others through training and spreading wisdom.
